Before today, I would have said nothing.  They already allow gay marriages, and civil unions among triples (soon to be higher I am sure).  They have the most liberal drug laws, and open prostitution.  Want a hit man?  Toke up at the bar!

In essence, they are the modern day version of Sodom and Gomorrah.  And for the record, the longest friend of the US in the world, bar none.

So what could possibly shock these freedom loving, hedonistic, American friends?

Try the latest attempts by their version of NAMBLA!  Yes, free love is all and good in Holland - Between consenting adults!

But now their version of NAMBLA is trying to get a political party together for the explicit purpose of lowering the age of consent to 12.  And the Dutch are rightly and justly sickened by it!

I have always had a special place in my heart for the Nederlanders (and on several fenders and bumpers as well - did I forget to mention they are the worst drivers?).  And yes, I have snickered as they passed their very liberal (in the dictionary sense of the word) laws.  After all, it is their country.

But for a change, I am glad to see them drawing a line.  And I hope they keep to it.  The Dutch are a strange people, but always friendly and nice to have as friends.  And while we can grin and bear a menage a trois (odyssey as it is), there are some things we cannot grin and bear.  And apparently neither can they.

As for the NAMBLA ilk, we allow this pond scum to live, as long as they do not act out their deviancy.  And at least for now, the most liberal country in the world is saying , yes it is Deviant.  So dont go there.

I hope they do not change that opinion.

I'd add, their standard of "consenting adults" is pretty low at 16, though admirably not as nutty as the Canadian standard of 14. Granted, Canada has a different standard for sex they consider to be demeaning or exploitive for kids that young, but still.

It's nice that they still have some sense of decency floating around in there. My personal opinion has always been that the only reasons they don't have tons of social problems from their permissivness is because they didn't have many to begin with, and frankly no one that would cause much trouble would probably want to live there, permissive or not.

The people that I have talked to that have been there have described it as the most boring place on earth, which seems odd with it steeped in this kind of permissiveness. I guess if you have a generally boring population you can let them go nuts without much effect. In the US it would look like the post-apocalypse in a matter of weeks...

Sorry, I am not Peta.  You want to screw an animal, I am not going to worry about it (unless you abuse them).  The age is not great, but as you point out, a lot better than Canada and until recently Kansas.

granted I was over-protected,  yet at 12 I was still into dolls and and just starting to develop teenybopper crushes on Frankie Avon and Fabian...certainly kids that age aren't emotionally and mentally ready to handle all that goes with having sexual relations,  and further more anyone wanting to be with children that age has got a major mental disease not helped with therapy or medicine.

I don't have a problem with consenting adults doing what ever makes them feel good so long as they're not hurting anyone. But 12 years old in no way can be called adult. I hope the Dutch maintain some common sense and tell NAMBLA where to go.

Thanks for finding that. LW has been spouting that crap all over the place as I condone beastiality. Actually it was a sarcastic response (that does not come through in writing) to the article that appeared that same day about the farm in Washington state where they said that. But LW being the queen bitch (she hates that so that is why I am calling her one - plus she really is one) decided I was serious. Kind of hard to take one comment on one day and make a case of an issue (but she has decided her blogs are going to be that way). My fault was not linking to the other articles of that day, as I was answering in turn and was really POed.
