How is the Military score calculated.

I usually win by military victory because I find it more fun.

In the breakdown of my score, the military component is usually the lowest and certainly lower than those I have beaten.

In my last game, for example. The Dregins lost about 300 ships and I lost five, yet their score was 4000 and mine 3000.
They also lost thousands of more troops.
They had less powerful ships.

It makes no sense.

How is the score worked out ?

Dunno, but I could recommend a change that might help the AI do a better job of figuring out when I become a threat:

Score my military on the basis of 1 point for every hull-space currently deployed, plus Damage x 10 points for every weapon deployed. Count infantry carrying modules as weapons.

A clever enemy could also modify the assessment of enemy weapons, based on whether they have effective defenses for it or not. For instance, instead of 10xDamage, they could do 10x(Damage-BestDefense) with a minimum of 3. Because it could be suddenly upgraded, so still represents a threat.

And they might even be able to do better with knowledge about my Tech tree abilities.

I'd also suggest some sort of sense of time. If I have a military that looks good on paper for some reason--say it's sitting next to a bunch of starbases near my homeworlds--the AI is impressed. Never mind that I have 10 tiny fighters and they have 10 battleships and 40 cruisers. On the other hand, I can take over literally two dozen or more planets in one week with only 6 Huge ships and a lot of transports, and the AI will mock me for my lack of a military. And then they lose the rest of their planets the next turn.

Also, Alliances should be taken into account. If I'm allied to the Altarians, and they have the strongest military in the game, and they're between me and the Drengin, the Drengin will declare war on me and promptly be stomped to powder by the Altarians. More importantly, I get a negative diplomacy modifier every time someone declares war on my allies because I, apparently, am auto-declaring war on the aggressor. So, after a few war cycles, my neighbors--even if I was on good terms with them, and have never maligned them in any way--will permanently hate me, and refuse to agree to peace with me because I "repeatedly declare war after suing for peace." I mean, duh, they should be able to tell that they are actually the ones declaring war on my alliance!

They seem to calculate based on pure hullsize. Sun Tsu said something like: warfare is based upon deception. Churning out lots of ships with cheap stuff gets the score up and scares the AI.

Torian are supposed to be good, but instead they're really evil. They're crazy to go to war at the first chance they get.

Hi!
How is the Military score calculated.
The last formula I heard was:

    sum_for_all_ships_with_weapons ( attack + defenses + hitpoints/10 )

By my observation starbases are excluded, as are troop transports based on cargo hull.

Thanks Iztok.
I had heard that too, since I started this thread.

In one game summary, my 'most powerful ship' was a Star Base that I had maxed out with weaponry.
So maybe Starbases are included. I dunno.

The military score is calculated by totalattack + totaldefense + totalhitpoints/10. I believe.

EDIT: Didn't see someone already said the formula.
