If I want an empire builder I would play Civ4.If I want real time battles I will be playing MedievelTotalWar2.If I want a 4x game I will be playing the GC2 expansion.

Spore seems a gimmick with many parts, that are all very lightweight.

Never say that again. As Aristotle said, "The whole is more than the sum of its parts." Spore will be more than a battle simulation, empire builder, 4X game, and Pac-Man clone. It's a simulation of life itself. And it will be amazing.

To the Greeks it was-anyways Spore looks amazinf and even more life-sucking than Gal Civ II-and that's something!

I can't wait!

Yeah, and Aristotle believed that slavery was a "natural condition"

Dude, doing the 9-5 5 days a week [the hours are better, though], with overtime whenever it comes up[if its there - take it], to pay bills, mortgages, etc etc [its a constant stream of outgoing]. We're still slaves to some degree until we can break this cycle. We're not called slaves anymore, but it amounts to the same thing. Lottery anyone?

Can't wait for spore, if it pans out it will be the most revolutionary game of this century.

Isen't the sims simulation for bill paying and mad love affairs?, not spore which is an evolution simulator.

If nothing else Spore should be a fun game to tinker with.

By the way it looks now, as far as I can tell, it's not meant to be a overly serious game, it looks as though it's meant to be just a good old fun game with some strategy thrown in. If it turns out to be more then that... all bonus. I know I will at lest be checking it out.

Yep, Will Wright ( THE CREATOR OF MANY REVOLUTIONARY GAMES ) said 1st Q of 07.

This game looks so awesome! Just think, eventually in that game you could explore 500,000 star systems!!! The majority of them with life! Now how do you do that??? That is what you call game designing!

I get the impression that Spore will end up as either the most hyped or the best game of the year.
It sure looks nice, but I'm not convinced that all these different parts will fit together.

Best game of the year? I am absolutely confident that Spore will prove to be one of the most influencial games of all time.

If you haven't, then you must see the video from the 2005 Game Developers' Conference. Seriously, I'm not recommending this--I consider it mandatory viewing for any gamer worth his/her salt. You'll not only see the mind-blowing scope of the game itself, but its implications for the future of the gaming industry as a whole.

The names have been re-engineered sleightly. From Slave, they went to Servant, to things like Customer Service Representative. The duties and relationships haven't changed much. Masters still torment Servants. Not much has changed on that front in the last 2300 years.
