Al-Murtha, the ultimate idiot

Something al-murtha doesn't understand is his anti-American rhetoric is what hurts U.S. efforts. Abu Ghraib was as much of a non-story as Bushs service in the National Guard was. The people who perpetuated the Abu Ghraib story and made it more than it was, was the media and some people in Congress. They are the one's who tried to present the arguement that Abu Ghraib was stand operating procedure for the U.S. military. Which in fact it was just a few soldiers and not part of some huge conspiracy.

The same thing is happening here and the starting point is al-murtha. If there is any fallout from this incident in Iraq, the blame will belong to al-murtha and the leftists who are celebrating this tragic event.

No. If the allegations turn out to be true, the blame will belong to the guilty individuals who carried out the atrocity - and that includes any further casualties for the coalition forces that come about as a result.

nobody said--or even suggested--it was huge conspiracy. nor was it portrayed as anything close to sop.

clearly it was an abberation and a failure of leadership. the question was--and still is--whether white house policy was helped to exacerbate the situation.

if you truly believe what happened there to be a non-issue, murtha has no chance at being named ultimate idiot cuz you're well on your way to the final round.

I guess you don't read your liberal sites much. Don't you remember, "Bush is ordering the torture at Abu Graib", and all the other nonsense that comes from the left.

Abu Ghraib was the actions of a few soldiers, and not the White House conspiracy that Ted Kennedy tried to make it out to be. Abu Ghraib was another non-story that the only reason the media in this country went on about it is because they thought they could get Bush with it. It was another failure on their part.

There is no distortions. Are you telling me the media and democratic members of Congress did not over-hype Abu Ghraib? I know you are under the impression the media is fair in this country, but as with all you liberals, reality doesn't mean anything.

anyone who truly respects our armed forces as institutions and sincerely supports the men and women serving in them on our behalf should be mad as hell about abu ghraib for a number of reasons--all of which have yet to be adequately addressed.

a. who was involved in deciding to do anything at all with abu ghraid--worst of all, continue using it as a prison-- except tear it down or blow it up as soon as we were sure it was totally unoccupied. once we know, something should be done to ensure we never again have to deal with the consequences of their abysmally bad judgement.

b. who suggested and who approved using intel agency (or worse, private contractors) inquisitors at abu ghraib. if we ever learn their names, they should be fired and possibly prosecuted.

c. did any of the above directly order or cause those intel agents to demand or entice anyone in the military to assist, contribute to or participate in interrogating prisoners those troops were ordered to guard? they should definitely be prosecuted.

d. which of the guards' superiors did anything except immediately remove the guards in question of all duties and take them into custody after being provided with the sorta photographic evidence we've all seen? which of their superiors failed to do the same?

if the press and the congress were doing an adequate job of investigating those issues, we'd know the answers and policies would already be in place to prevent anyone--even members of the military--from doing such damage to the honor of our armed services in the future.

furthermore, there should be no need for us depend upon the media or congress to bring stuff like this to light if commanding officers acted in accord with the code of honor to which all graduates of our military academies swear to uphold.

The press and Congress weren't interested in investigating the "issues". They used this incident to add to the fire of their anti-Bush rhetoric. Kennedy comparing the U.S. to Saddam, the media trying to link Bush to Abu Ghraib without any proof. You know, stand procedure for the media these days. Make the news, don't report it.

Things don't always work out that way. You cannot hold the entire military accountable for the actions of a few. Which is what the media and Ted Kennedy tried to do.
