YOU Cannot Teach an Old dog New Tricks! ??? HA!

Setting the record straight.

Without getting into particulars, Let me say, OLD DOGS CAN LEARN NEW TRICKS!

I have changed in way most of you folks cannot even begin to imagine!

There was a time when none of you {ok a few might be an exception} Would have wanted me in your life. After all who wants someone around that can turn into a raving extremely violent man at the drop of a hat, a wrong look could set me off.

Trust me when I say I WAS a very capable brawler! MY only rules were "SURVIVE" AT ANY COST. NO morals, no ethics and no scruples WAS a good short definition of who I WAS!

This kind and gentle rant is due to those that feel Lucas in incapable of change, if Lucas won't change it is because he does not want to, not because he cannot!

I MUST believe that a person can change, to lose that belief is to die for me.

For any of you to believe that a person cannot learn or once a thief always a thief, or once an anything, always the same is folly.

There are no hard and fast rules for what a man can learn or how much a man can change!

Debate this if you must, but be aware I might be an OLD DOG! THAT learned new tricks, but I still remember OLD TRICKS And I bite if provoked!

wish him luck, MM, but I have my doubts.

All anyone can do at this point is wait and see. When someone has repeatedly promised to change and then repeatedly BROKEN that promise, they are no longer entitled to the benefit of the doubt (in my opinion) they're going to have to prove it.

As he is going to have to prove it.

whip I am speaking to a mans ability to change if they want it bad enough, it was inspired by lucas article and some answers I saw there, but this is about the generic "you" and the ability to change that most people here say cannot be done.

You said it best.  You learned new tricks.  No one taught you.  It is called wisdom and can only come from experience.

No one taught you

that's not entirely true doc, more than a few spent time teaching me simple things, like how to get a drivers liscense, how to pay taxes, how to control my vile temper. and on and on and on.

Oh, i don't doubt that people can change, I just doubt that Lucas is one of them

sigh I hope you are wrong about this one whip.

I agree Elie, but will say experience has shown me people will only change; a. when they are truly ready and b. if they truly want to.

I don't know what has been happening here as I tend to stay away from any online rucks but if Lucas is truly wanting to change, then nothing will stop it from happening, except himself.

exactly maso. the desire to change MUST come from within, even then the desire is NOT enough, you must work and work damn hard, put deep principals into practice and always guard against back sliding.

I believe any person can change if they truly want to change. And I also believe the older you get the harder it is to change.

I have made changes that were and still are hard for me. So with all sincerity I'm glad you made the changes that were beneficial to you and your loved ones.

As for Lucas, I do hope he makes the necessary changes. I'm not too familiar with him so I could be way off base saying this. But I think he would be alright if he blogs for himself instead of trying to write to what he thinks other people want or what he thinks will get him in their favor.

btw .. describing yourself was like you were describing my father.

Well, MM, it seems our boi Lucas is already in trouble, having started a fight with Tex, blacklisting a whole slew of people, stomping his feet and cussing folks out, posting a drama-stirring pity party of an article to keep the dispute going, and earning himself a scolding from Karma already.

to be fair tex was baiting him. I read the blog end to end.
yup looks like lucas will not be long before karma get him { get the play on the word Karma}? heh
Sometimes you can teach an old dog new tricks, but you can't teach a young one anything at all. Some dogs are just...uhmm...not all there, if you know what I mean.

I understand whata you are saying whip, but with me "hope springs eternal"

*rolls eyes*

Mod...just so you know. (I'm not sure if you do) But the reason I deleted her comments is because she (IMO) insulted another blogger, on my blog. I didn't like that. I've told her before, to not insult or make...'mean' comments about other bloggers on my blog. I mean, how hard is that? (Ok, that is a bit hypocritical, eh?)

That, and....that so called "pity blog" (i.e. the 'compassion' one), was NEVER intended as such. It was just a question. Bad timing. That's it. No pity on my part. I swear.

For what it's worth...

No, I didn't "bait" him.

He decided it was a good idea to lecture me on something that had nothing to do with him and further that he knew absolutely nothing about. I told him to mind his own business. He did not. I let him know what I thought about it off the forums.

His actions on the forums are his responsibility alone. Try this link. No one's holding ANYTHING he said off-forums (meaning on my thread) against him.

Just wanted to clear that up.

i know mm's assertion about our ability to reclaim ourselves to be absolutely true.

with that outta the way, effecting any sorta significant change could present serious risks--careerwise anyway--for lucas. it's who he is now...not who he might be...which has convinced me with just a little luck, an unrelenting belief in whatever passes thru his consciousness at any given moment and the public's seemingly insatiable appetite for figures who make even the thickest of their number feel just a few lumens brighter by comparison, our own dear lil lucas may find hisself the next karl limbaugh.

as to mz w, i have to admit i was quite taken aback to see her refer to elintywolf as a 'douche'. was she thinking massengill? summer's eve? both, perhaps, garnished with a norform? it was only after considerable reflection i came to appreciate her wisdom and perception.

generic douche. of course!
