would this custom race work well for the Metaverse? (its not a solid idea yet though)

just out of curiosity, will this idea for a custom race work for Metaverse? I'm doing the demo atm, but will get the full game soon, so I don't know what exactly the abilities should be. and any race balancing suggestions are welcome

heres the stats I'm thinking of and some info:

Race Name: Kritii'ari
Race leader: (undecided, but will be something that sounds like its from an insectoid language)
Homeworld: K'tiiari (a tropical class 14 world)
Homesun: Aziic
Other planets in thier system: Hiora (class 0 and a gas giant), Rakkir (class 1 slightly better than Mercury, they have a mining complex there), Dc'iax (class 7 a colder world with its own lifeforms, they have a colony here), Hil'h (class 0 planet far from its sun)

Loyalty 100% (they are an insectoid hivelike, though not neccesarily hiveminded race)
social production and military production 30%-50% (bieng the industrious insectoids they are)
soldiering 30% (bieng descended from ant-like insects with a lifestyle similar to that of the army ants)
courage at least brave (because of thier fearless soldier mentality)
Morale 30% or something because of thier hive-like society.

political preference could be mercantile since even though they are warlike, they aren't out to kill everybody, or maybe war party, dunno.

as for thier alignment, I was thinking somewhat evil alignment, but I don't really know enough about the good/evil alignment stuff to be sure. They are not out to conquer the galaxy as the Drengin are trying to do, but bieng a hive-like society, they tend pick choices they view(mainly those planet event choices) as bieng advantegous for the 'colony' (thier empire or the planet in general) as a whole, even if it means sacrificing some millions in population if its worth the sacrifice.

Class 1's don't work. You could mod this in, but I'm not really sure about the metaverse for a modded race with high bonuses. The Thalans are like this anyway, and if you want loyalty use the Yor.

yea well I can just make that one a class 0 and just RP that my race has a mining station there.

and the metaverse is pretty much like a competition by submitting various saved games and all? I'm not too clear about the Metaverse and what would be bad about using a modded race with high bonuses in the Metaverse?

Originally there was a plan to be able to mine asteroid belts etc, but it got dropped. I hope it gets for the expansion.

If you give your planet a moon, it gets a +10% to production.

And modded races (as in .xml modded) are illegal in the metaverse if I remember, since they have undesigned advantages. But it's perfectly fine for anything else.

so if I create a custom race in the game itself and not through .XML (although I may have to fiddle with it to fix the names I give my own star and planets), that one would be accepted? because I've seen several ppl (you included) have medals for a custom race in the Metaverse, which is why I thought I could use my idea for a custom race in there. of course though, bieng a newb about the Metaverse stuff, I don't know everything about whats allowed and whats not.

I do know that cheats aren't allowed and using Kryo's hull mod (or any other mod I think?) is not allowed for Metaverse.

and I could certainly use the moon in place of that class 1 planet that I wanted a mining base on. only problem you can't name those moons... which really isn't such a big deal.

Yeah, modding in game is fine if you don't touch the xml. However, the highest natural loyalty bonus is 20% (and that's bugged, so 10% is the max you can pick), morale would be fine, and custom races get a +20% to soldiering anyway. TBH, you're screwing youself over with those picks, Loyalty isn't all that great. The rest you could get too.

Names of leaders and homeworlds are fully changable in-game. Stars could probably be modded in name, but in stat you're stuck with 10 and 4.

well, I could certainly allocate that soldiering bonus to something else if custom races already get that bonus and tone the social/military production to 30%.

so the custom race medals are from using a (legal) custom race in the Metaverse?

Custom race is automatically selectable as the 11th race. You can't play against it, but it's implemented in game. I play pretty much entirely as either it or the Drath.

Two remarks:
1) your race needs econ bonus - if you don't have money, you can't do much with them.
2) I'd pick a growth bonus - the 1.1 game has it toned down quite a lot. Since the pop is your main cash producer, it is always good to have more of them.

I agree with some of the other posters. Loyalty is not a very useful bonus, and soldiering isn't either because it's easy to get on your own with tech. So you won't be building an optimum race...but maybe that wasn't your intention. And you could easily add pop growth into an insectiod race's profile.

As long as you know going in that it won't be the strongest set of talents around, why not do it? It's fun to try new things, make new races, use different bonuses. Also, using weaker bonuses in a custom race is a way to make the game more of a challenge without going up a difficulty level. There's no reason you can't win with the race as you describe it...if you play a good enough game.
