How old are you?

How old are you?

I found some very interesting posts and observations on this forum.

I'm curious how old are the people hanging here and playing this game.

27 right here...

Peace!

I'm 54 years old. I had assumed in the late 60's and early seventies that I would be dead by the year 2000. If I had known I was going to last this long I would have taken much better care of my body.

A word to the wise. When you're young you feel invulnerable. When you're old you feel every indiscretion of your youth. You've been warned.

"THIS GAME HAS BEN TAKEN OVER BY THE E.A.P!!!"

"MAN THE BATTLE STATIONS!!!"
"PREPARE THE TRANSPORTS!!!"
"BRING OUT THE CRYING BABIES!!!"

"But, sir" the private stammered "THEY OUTNUMBER US 50 TO 1"

"YES, BUT WE HAVE THE CRYING BABIES!! WE'RE GONNA-"

"No, sir" the private interrupted "

"TELL ME WHAT?"

"THE GROWN UPS GET THE BABIES"]

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I suggest we.....uhhh.....PANIC!"

26 and glad to see the high percentage of older players  , hope in a few years my son will be into the same

Well, 3rd place it will have to be then. There is no way I want to catch up. The only way to do that is not pleasant for the other person.

To all the oldtimers (who have a wife) don't they get pi$$ed at the fact you play computer games!?

Absolutely, however since I just spent $25,000 on her new car she tends to cut me some slack (for now at least).

Pretty expensive trick eh Mumblefratz? I am lucky enough to have a wife who enjoys games as much as me. When it comes to PS2 we literally fight eachother for playtime rights. On the computer, if she starts on the Sims2 or Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 it's all over. I won't see that machine again until about a month later. Luckily, a few new games for the PS2 is all I had to buy to regain my computer. Now if only I could stop playing GC2 long enough to play some of my other fav's like Civ 4 (which I just bought but haven't even tried yet because of GC2), or Warhammer 40K Winter Assault, or my precious SimCity 4. Wow, I've been a bad player to my games huh?

Hey, question
How did you react when people older than you were telling you this?

PS: 30 here!

I wish someone had told me this, but I probably would have ignored them. However, any fool can learn from his own mistakes, a wise person learns from other peoples mistakes.

Actually, she kept her last car for 10 years and it only cost me $15,000. If she keeps this one for another 10 then it's only $2,500 a year. I'm just happy she can afford her own gas.

On the computer, if she starts on the Sims2 or Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 it's all over. I won't see that machine again until about a month later.

That's why I have two identical machines. However, my wife isn't particularily computer literate, she's a teacher and uses it only occasionally to find school activity related stuff. I keep the second one pretty much so that she can't mess mine up.

Not at all.
I don't spend a GREAT deal of time on the game.
I used to spend more time on flight simulator type games like IL2.
She is also thankful that I have stopped flying real aeroplanes.

She is heavily into machine embroidery, doing beautiful collaborative works with people all over the World.
We spend time together sailing. Mostly crewing on other people's boats these days.

Then of course there is shopping....

Marshall reminded me of this thread so I thought I'd give it a bump. I think it's a good idea. Not that it's *all* that significant, but it can put a bit of context into someone’s point of view.

To summarize, I've extracted the list of names and ages posted up until this point. Appologies to anyone I missed or messed up on.

BTW the average (admitted) age is 32. Given that there are few (if any) women (wish there were more), this is probably accurate.

Just turned 53.

Like Mumble, I was indestructible as a young man, and I absolutely would NOT have listened to anyone telling me to be careful. Being careful is for old folks who have survived being indestructible.

I am now a very careful old man.

Well, maybe not THAT careful. After all, after you have stared Death in the eye multiple times and had that long talk with the Lord (we're good), you just start to shrug at the mention of eternity. It's just a much better place we go to, after all. I have quit smoking (after 30 years of puffing) and taken up drinking wine with dinner, provided I'm not planning on going back out.

I've been married for 33 of my 53 years. My lovely wife tolerates me, but I have yet to figure out why. So, I indulge her in most things. It's my perogative, after all. It's not that hard to set aside the laptop long enough to help her with a project or just talk to her. I love my games, but the games can wait whenever family calls.

I like this forum, by the way. Relatively intelligent conversations and there is not too much flaming going on. If more would remember to not feed the trolls, then things would be even better, although I do admit to a certain guilty pleasure in reading some of the more virulent posts.

Carry on, y'all.

42 + a few weeks. I listened better to warnings about overdoing the intoxicants than I did to talk about eating better and avoiding stupid mistakes with my back.

Far as I can tell, menfolk my age and younger are on average much more vain than our elders, esp. if they are involved in entertainment or IT. One of the downsides of us feminists losing too many battles in the '60s-'70s "war of the sexes." Or a testament to the effectiveness of advertising.
