No, I think you can leave it on the empire page in the Metaverse, can't you?

Yeah , it's so intuitive I'm surprised you asked. To leave you click the the "Join Empire button" on your empire main page. As if that would not be the obvious correct move. This brings up your characters with the option to leave the empire button beside the character. Only took me 15 minutes to figure out.

Yeah we know it's a little 'backwards' to leave an empire. It's on the list of things to take a look at but I don't have an ETA for when that will be changed.
