Screenshots: Beating the dead horse

My email notifications still don't work for forum threads and I lost track of a recently good thread on screenshots. So, here I am. At the risk of a beating a dead horse, while trying not to repeat anything already stated or over stated......

I really, really, really, wish that everyone who submitted a SS could post the skin names AND links. Not just for the sake of giving credit to the artist, but when someone see's something they like, it would be nice to have the link or at the least the title and artists name. I submit SS's myself, and I know how time consuming it can be to gather that info, but PLEASE...gather it.

Personally...and I am sure this will go over like a lead balloon...I think if the person can't be bothered with posting that info we should refrain from commenting on that particular SS. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it's just so freakin frustrating. I don't mind even having to Google for the skin, but if the title is wrongly posted or there is no author's name to assist in searching (or even the site it came from...something) I don't have much of chance in finding it.

You go to all the trouble to make the SS, wether it's your form of artistic expression or you like to have multiple desktops to play with...finish it. To me, it's no different than some cursor or wb I download (and this hapens a lot over at DA...I dunno why) that is incomplete. (All the cursor elements aren't there, just the main one...or with a wb they don't skin half of it) If doing SS is your choice of skinning or art, please do it completely for those of us who look to the screenshots for idea's or those wonderfully odd skins that you find and take the time to share at all.

Please.

Well said Po'. The good thing about screen shots for me is that it lets me often see things that I might have missed and without the links, it is a lesson in frustration as said. Link up please!

Conversely some people simply use the screenshot section to upload images they then wish to link to or refer to in a forum statement elsewhere.....in other words the screenshot is simply a tool....an example....and NOT an 'artwork' for the edification of one and all.

Not every screenshot needs must be documented/explained via references and/or accreditations...

If, however all you are uploading it for is to post 'Thanx, authors'...then by all means detail WHO.

But it's not [nor should it be] compulsory...

If screenshoots (or anything else) could be filtered out of the "This Just In" for subscribers I don't think there would be such a fuss.

Then we could focus on important things . . .
~~~~~ The unfairness of the rating system
~~~~~ How the quality of work has declined
~~~~~ Copyright law and fan art
~~~~~ Why isn't there a library for {app X}?

Speaking of smilies.....
Since my reformat I know longer see the 'animated' smilies...How do I get them to animate again?

Well...regardless of why anyone uploads screenshots it would be nice if there were links included. I mean really...is it all that hard to do? Since they make up the biggest library here at WinCustomize what better way to give exposure to all the skins people can use. Or maybe we should just call them teaseshots.

what browser are you using? if it's IE you need to:-

Tools | Internet Options | Advanced ... scroll down and look for Play animations in web pages under the Multimedia section - ensure this has a check mark

if it's firefox, you could try :-

typing about:config in the address bar and make sure that "image.animation_mode" is set to its default-value "normal"

if it's opera, then i have no idea....

i hope this works

re: SS
I put the title & author. If the item is not available on WC, I include the link, if possible

you could try temporarily turning off zonealarm and seeing if you still have the problem...i remember a friend having this problem before, and i think they ended up having to delete their firefox profile to fix it

As I was "putting together" a screenshot today, I had some thoughts on how to "remember" the skin and author...
1) If you really like and use a certain skin, add it to your favorites here, that way you can easily find it.
2) It would be great if authors of rainlenders and winamp skins and other skins would include a text note with their name and link to their site...very simple to do, as I do with my brushes. Windowblinds automatically downloads with the authors name.

The screenshot I uploaded today has a very kool rainy, but I could not remember where I got it ( I did look here, no luck), so I could not credit the author or add a link...now if it had a text note in the folder with that info, I would have been able to give credit where credit is due!!!

My two cents for the day!!
