What's the point of this threaad, exactly? I mean, are you doing a survey of people who play TBS games or do you like reading about hardware? =o

I've got one computer sitting here that's a 300mhz P2 with a 3GB harddrive and a borked CD drive. The monitor it's hooked up to is generally off, but it's a nice 640x480 dealie that makes a terrific headache-inducing squeel noise. Mmmm, headaches.

I got one of those apple II's with the 15 mhz processor 128 kb memory and two 5 inch floppy drives. I updated to a color screen the other day, amazing what things people throw out these days

Mine's a 3200+, X800XL, 1GB of DDR400. A mid end computer. 2500+ was a good buy since it overclocked to 3200+ with ease.

i wish i had that
but i can't afford it
i could have made my mum get me a geforce 7600 or maybe a 7800 but my laptop doesn't have enough power to power it for 1 hour so i need to get a new battery. and more RAM

I have an AMD Opteron 146 running at 2.8ghtz (same as FX57) 2 x 512mb of OCZ VX at 240mhz 2-2-2, but unfortuneatly my X800XL has died. Im trying to sell some of my other pc parts (3200+ that OCs to 2.7, and 2x512 of OCZ VX) to try and get enough for a 7900GT.

Overclocking does not kill hardware alone, overclocking alone will never kill modern hardware. My X800XL died because I had done some Vmods on it, one of which failed.

@ HelloHelloHello, you WANT to do research before you jump into overclocking. www.xtremesystems.org/forums/ and www.dfi-street.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9 are good places to start, but if you jump straight into it you are going to screw things up. I started when I was 11 years old, and I blew a PSU by stessing it too much ($10 dollar PSU, you get what you pay for) and flashed a dvd reader with the incorrect firmware (never worked again). My first foray into volt modding also resulted in my video card dying, so I don't suggest any of you try it unless you don't care about your video card or you have good soldering skills.

get this and download it
it puts something into the registry to make the graphics cards clock speed adjustable.
its called coolbits
i can't seem to find it

I get more crashes in GC2 when i overclock the video. The game does not like it.

I have tried overclocking on my old Geforce 6200 and the new 6800GS with the same results. The game crashes constantly. And it is not from overheating, I have watched for that.

Dumb thread. However, drool over this:

A8N SLI mobo
two 10,000 rpm hd (raid-0)
FX-57 processor (water cooled) oc-d
two 7800 GTX vidcards (water cooled) oc-d
audigy 2 zs with 7.1 surround speakers
24" Widescreen flat panel
too much more to list

Re Overclocking

Overclocking.net is a great resource on this subject.

OVerclocking is one of those things where you should know what you are doing. The risks might be low, but on the other hand they do exist. Asking how can I get 2.5GHz isn't really a question and is impossible to answer. Not every cpu can be clocked, perhaps not even 1 MHz. Also this stuff can make your computer unstable even if it doesn't break it. Hardware failure only happens when heat cooks the hw up and if the heat sensors exist and are working correctly, there should be minimal risks. Still you can make your computer unable to boot and then you should know how to reset settings. In my opinion it's better not to overclock unless you understand computers well or your hardware is old and just isn't enough anymore.

my laptop is only 2 - 4 months old and the heat sensors are working perfectly.
