Easy reply here: The Washington Redskins (NFL). I'll occassionally acknowledge being a fan of the Baltimore Ravens, but just haven't learned to love them as much as I always was a fan of the old Baltimore Colts. When Mr. Mayflower van lines, I mean Irsay, moved the Colts from Baltimore, it ruined me for cheering for any Baltimore football team for a long time. Even when a team was brought back, I was left sad knowing that one of my favorite Aunt and Uncle's favorite (local) team was gone, through no fault of their own. They saw the same sadness as the old Cleveland Browns left town, and it left me unable to cheer the newly named Ravens when they came to town. Once Cleveland got a team back, I relaxed more, and let myself enjoy the Ravens run to the Superbowl championship that they took back in the late 1990s.
In baseball, I'm forming a great relationship with the Washington Nationals. It's great to have a team in D.C. again, as I have virtually no memory of a team there back in the 1970s. I would be happy to be a fan of the Baltimore Orioles again, but I refuse to acknowledge them until they lose the idiot that they have as an owner, or until he gets a lot smarter about letting good baseball people run his team.
In college sports, do I really have to say it? Go Terps baby!
Hockey? Do they still play that game? I had forgotten all about them after they locked out the league. Actually, that saddens me, since the Capitals do have a great rookie player right now, Alex Ovetchkin (spelling?). I would like to become a fan of Hockey again, especially the Caps, but with the Caps acting like a very poor market/small market team, and spending almost no money to improve the team, it may be a while before I spend even a thought on them.
Pro basketball? Eh. If pressed, I'd say I like the Wizards, but I really don't care about them or any other pro team. Thanks to guaranteed contracts, a hard salary cap, and a long streak of poor (bad) teams in D.C., pro hoops has been nothing more than an occassional thought for me.
Thats my list. Feel free to slam it down, but be prepared to get your own favorites slammed back.
