The sports team you like to hate the most is?

With all of the recent news lately surrounding the Duke Blue Devils and their now notorious Lacrosse team, I'm reminded of just how much I like to hate on the Dukies -- one of the archrivals of my beloved Terrapins.

That hatred begs the question that I'm posing here for you all now -- what sports team, or sports teams, are you most hated and why?

I have a couple of teams that I can fill in the blanks about, and will do so in my reply below. Please note that you're welcome to just leave a 'I hate ____ - THEY STINK!!!' type message if you want, but it would be nice to know why you hate your selection, so if you have the time expound on your choices a little.

Ok, I have several teams on my "hate" list.

In baseball, I abhor the Yankees. I've hated them for as long as I can remember hearing my grandparents cursing them. I've especially hated them since the days of Jeffrey Maier (the dreaded fan interference play at Camden Yards back in the playoffs in the 1990s), but even before that. The "boss" and his habit of spending unlimited amounts of money to buy championships just rubs me raw. I'd be happy if the Yankees suffered their own curse of the bambino (or of the boss) and didn't win another championship in my lifetime. Not likely, but I can hope.

I really don't have any hated teams in the National League, but I may be working on finding some rivals there as I see my newly beloved Washington Nationals fall victim to some teams in the league.

In college sports, I despise the Dukies in pretty much all sports, though they barely blip on the radar in anything except basketball. I'm also a hater of the golden domers. Since well before Rudy hit the big screens, I've felt that Notre Dame is full of itself and not worthy of the mantle they seem to think they deserve. Seeing them fail in various sports brings me a nice little smile.

In football, no comparison -- I loath the Dallas Cowboys. Like the Yankees, they have a bunch of hanger on fans that follow the team and wear that darned star because they like to cheer for winners. The Cowboys have been favorite targets for my hatred since way back in the days of Roger the Dodger and his team mates. Seeing them have a down year brings a huge grin to my face, no matter how badly my own favorite team might be doing. A close second would be the dreaded New York Football Giants. They've been easy to hate on since the days of Bavaro (spelling?), and LT. Seeing them knock out the great motor mouth QB Joe "Theese-man" Thiesman was no fun for me. Actually, for that alone, many people should hate on them, as, if Thiesman hadn't been knocked out of football before his career was really over, we might not be suffering from his incessant motor mouth on our TVs.

Pro basketball is an area I just can't get excited about. Sure, there's the former Washington Bullets, now Wizards, but I just never learned to hate any teams they regularly faced. Probably because the Bullets sucked for a long time, and the Wizards continued that tradition way too well.

In Hockey, it was easy to hate on the Philly Flyers, and the New York teams. Even the stinky Penguins. All of them had hands in breaking my heart many times along the way in marathon overtime games that never should have gotten to overtime. The poor Capitals had some of the worst luck in the playoffs, even in years they had pretty darned good teams. Always sent home early. The subject of the great joke: what's red, white and blue and plays golf and April? The Capitals. Yeah, sent out to play golf because they couldn't beat the Islanders, Rangers, Flyers or Penguins.

Hey, now! Them's fighting words! Of course, I'll have to agree on the Cowboys. That's just a team that I love to hate. And of course, the Deadskins, er Redskins. Can't live in the Virginia and not be inundated with Redskins, this and Redskins that. If I didn't dislike the team before ... I definitely do now.

As for the other sports - I'm more of a hit or miss on those, so I don't have any team that I really dislike (except maybe the Yankees). Favs would be the Atlanta Braves ('cause I watch, and have watched, some of them play for the R Braves) and the Oakland Athletics (again, 'cause of watching their AAA farm team in Huntsville, AL - gotta stay true to the hometown crowd).

Reminds me of something - Have y'all heard the song by Alabama (country band from ... drumroll ... Alabama ... ) called Cheap Seats? Really good song for baseball fans.

Football:  Close, but the nod has to go to the Plowboys.  A close Second is the Deadskins!  I hate the 2 games a year they play as they both cant lose!

Baseball: Braves!  Only cause I am a Mets Fan.  Second is the Damn Pirates!  I dont really hate any AL teams.

Basketball: Celtics!  I cannot stand Bird!  Never have never will!

Hockey: Are they playing?

College: Football: Ohio State!  I had to put up with that mania in college (I went to Dayton).

Basketball: Uconn!  They are such pretenders!  Someone should euthanize them!

You hate the Raiders and the Cowboys?  Does your psychologist know?

College football is the only sport I really allow myself to spend time on these days, and since I bleed Razorback Red, the most loathsome team in all the universe are the Longhorns of Texas.  As a little kid, I think I hated Texas before I even knew where Texas was on a map.  Since the demise of the Southwest Conference, I've hated any team coached by Steve Spurrier, since we've never been able to beat him.

With the NFL, I spent many long, cold years hearing the crap about Dallas being "America's Team," watching them win so many games, all the while my beloved Miami Dolphins never could quite make it.  Dan Marino is still the greatest quarterback to play the game (well, him and Joe Montana).

College Basketball, I guess other than Texas, I'd have to hate UCLA, because they beat us in 1995 for the championship.  I also tend to hate any team that Dick Vitale talks about, although I realize that this is due to the sound of his voice rather than the actual teams themselves.

Baseball?  I hate every single baseball team that exists because it is the most boring of sports.  I'd rather watch curling.

And in the spirit of your article, although I left some explanation, I'll close with this:

I hate Texas -- THEY STINK!!!

My first psychologist knew and was a cowboy fan. As a result I sought counsel elsewhere. ::

College Basketball: I hate both Duke and North Carolina. Duke probably cause they win alot but also cause they seem to get all the calls. I also can't stand their fans. I hate everything about them, and god help you if Dick Vitale is doing their game. He firmly has his head up Duke's rear.

North Carolina used to be number one on my hated list but since Dean Smith retired I don't hate them as much as Duke. Dean Smith was a good coach. He was an innovator bringing in new things to the game such as the four corner offense. Now saying all that I still think he was overrated. Despite having a top 5 recruiting class every year he won only 2 championships. He won his first one against Georgetown when Freddie Brown got a brain fart and threw a pass at the end of the game to the wrong player - a UNC player. He won his second one against Michigan when Chris Webber got a brain fart and called a timeout at the end of the game when Michigan had none left.

College Football: I hate Notre Dame. They think they ARE college football. I wish the BCS would stand up and not include them in any BCS game. But of course in their greed they let overrated Notre Dame teams play since they bring ratings.

Pro Basketball: I hate the Los Angeles Lakers. I hate their players and I hate their fans. It's not cause of Kobe either I hated them for years. Most Laker fans are fake. You never see any purple and gold anywhere until they start winning. I hate any team whose fans only wear the team colors when they are winning. Look at last year when they finish with a losing record most fans jumped to the Clippers.

Pro Football: I hate the Dallas Cowboys. For years they were like the Notre Dame of pro football. They and their fans thinking they were football. America's Team.. yeah right. Have you seriously ever met Cowboy fan who wasn't delusional?

Baseball: I really don't hate no baseball team. Well maybe I hate Atlanta Braves. That whole tomahawk chop thing is so annoying.

Hockey: I hate the Colorado Rockies. It's cause I'm a Detroit Redwings fan. I actually do respect their team a lot, all except that crybaby Patrick Roy. I couldn't stand him since he was bawling way back in Montreal. As much as I hated seeing the Wings play them in the playoffs I thought for the better of the sport a Wings-Rockies playoff match should be mandatory ever year.

That was probably the greatest final ever! I think James worthy is still wondering where that pass came from!
