Modern Democrats and Modern Republicans
This is in no way implying that all democrats and all republicans fit into these catagories, just a trend I've noticed since Bush Sr. took office, feel free to comment.

What do you base this on? Most debates on this site by "modern" Republicans (which, while I'm technically an independent I do lean right) focus NOT on morality but on taxation, freedom, the welfare state, the war on terror.
What is the most notable news item right now? Attacks on Bush's foreign policy and Republicans attacks on the weakness of Democrats on that issue.

I'm not really sure what area you think republicans are trying to legislate morality or whatever.
