I just purchased this game, it reminds me alot of an old game, "Star Flight2." I loved that game, I was hoping this game is alot like it.
I have another game that is somewhat like this called "Spaceward Ho". It was also hard to understand and play. The graphics is great on that game, and I did not win much on that game. I did good when I put it on automatic playing, because I did not know what I was doing.
I have not played i this game (Glactic Civilizations II) too much, I am still in the starting level. I would like to get going to other planets and explore and do some space collecting as well as some combating.
I find the begining is slow and hard to understand. The reason being no minerals to find, or combating, not much to do but to click on the "Next Turn" button so see what happens next. You cannot see the buildings doing anything yet.
Anyway, the graphics are great and I will find out later on what this game is about, I am sure I will really like it.

Have you read the beginners guide ? Link

Buy a factory or two on your homeworld and a colony ship or two (custom colony ships are even better).
Pick up a few tips from reading these forums ... but working out your own strategy is a blast ... and welcome to the world of GalCiv2, where I currently live approximately eight hours a day (the wife is not happy!)

.............where I currently live approximately eight hours a day (the wife is not happy!)

All I did was to buy my wife a copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, I know how to treat a lady

Well just to help you people out with a little more detail....

I was getting criticised for being on GC II for too long so.....

I bought RCT3 and then installed it on my wifes machine, asking her to play it for a while as it kept crashing on mine. After she played it for a couple of hours that was it she is now hooked
I never make a comment about the time that she spends playing on her PC and guess what - no more hassle about me being an unsociable bugger anymore

So - rather than trying to defend your own addiction (complete waste of time) just get your partner hooked on something similar.

Thanks for the suggestions, but my wife isn't into gaming at all (weirdo). She does love shopping, but there's no way I could earn enough to support even two hours shopping per day!
