Proper procedures for playing a metaverse game?

Last night I started my first metaverse game. I remember seeing somewhere that someone said you don't need to be online while you play the game, only when you start the game and finish the game. Is this true? If it is, what happens if I'm not online when I finish the game?

What you do is:
- You connect to the internet
- You select "Metaverse" in the menu and log in
- You selecte start game
- You disconnect from the internet
- You play the game
- You finish the game and the question is asked whether you want to upload your scores (do not do anything yet)
- You connect to the internet
- You answer the question about the upload with yes
- You end the game (when the upload is finished)
- You disconnect from the internet

Your scores are uploaded !!!

If you do not connect a message is displayed that the game is not able to make a connection and if you want to try again. If no connection is made your score is lost.

(The other option is: You take some form of cable/DLS and you never have to log off )
