why do some mods get denied?

specifically mine... i submitted a mod that were pictures of the cast of battlestar galactica in the format of all the leader pictures. I put them into my game and have been using them ever since i submitted this, and they have worked fine so, id like to know if stardock could tell me why it was denied, or if there was something wrong with it, what specifically was it? because nobody else has submitted this yet, and i have created those, along with logos for the 12 colonies for use amongst my empire (the colonial fleet) and I have been waiting for this to get approved and added to the library, I thought i had it thoroughly checked out, so if anybody knows (i dont think anybody but stardock would really know why) my mod didnt get approved, could you let me know?

Could be copyright infringement reasons....

thanks, its not so much that i feel bad, its just that if i did something wrong id like to fix it, and resubmit because i know that some of the people in my empire wanted me to submit it and have been waiting for it, so id like them to have it but apparently something wasnt right, so id like to be able to fix it, id like to see some kind of description in the library about what you should do, not just when you go to add a mod that says, add zipped folder, picture no larger then blah blah... etc... and it isnt clear past that really, maybe somebody could do like a how to post mods that work kind of post or journal, because it would cut down on things getting rejected and there might be some simple mistake that people (such as myself) are making that could be easily fixed.

Images that are strictly copyrighted tend to get rejected.

Basically, if you didn't make what you upload, there's a good chance it'll get rejected.

We are generally okay with fan art. But if it's literally just a photo of someone taken by someone else and uploaded, it probably won't get accepted.

*deletes possible mod submissions*

What? you mean we need to be skilled at editing pictures for this? Hell.

I just look at code

So if we submitted the entire cast of star trek with photoshopped mustaches you'd accept it

Gosh, I really hate to agree with frogboy on this (he plays as an evil alignment) But alot of the these production comapnies take unathorized distribution of their cast photos pretty seriously (especially for shows that are currently running... BSG )
Photos of cast members dont always belong just to them, the actors, actors unions, publishers, and PR companies often will have partial ownership as well. Sucks for us fans, but its how they make their living.

This is sorta why I'm worried about the mod community. What mods are everyone planning?

Star Trek
Star Wars
Babylon 5
etc etc

When you create a mod based on something like this it's bascially a spin of the roulette wheel. Red your ignored, black you get a cease and desist letter from some large corp.

Your better off making your own stuff.

If people are waiting for your pictures, why don't you just send it to them? It's not like the files have to be in the library to work. Sure, it might not get community-wide recognition (unless you put them up on another mod site), but the people waiting on them will be sated.

Well the klingon ships where it seems removed from the download section so i would assume someone has been whining to SD due to copyright infrigments.

It doesnt really matter though, there are tons of 3rd party fansites which wont remove said content simply because some big corp tell them too. It all depends where you chose to host your files. Same will go for a Star Trek mod, they might try to stop you from publishing it to the public but in the end there s really nothing they can do if you play your cards right.

You can host your mods on your own site and take the risk. Let StarDock take care of fixing the game bugs, not dealing with copyright suits. PS I suggest you redraw the bold guy in MS paint. That wouldn't be copyright infringement, and it's not hard to draw LOL

no the klingon ships are still in the library, as well as i think the other ships have been B5? dont quite recall. i realize that if someone else wanted them i could send them or host them somewhere, i just wondered, because like some one said, it wouldnt get community wide distribution and i just guessed someone outside my empire might maybe want them, but im back to what nilus1 said, if we changed the pictures (he says add a moustache) would they be accepted? like if we changed the background or colorized it so that it wasnt really a picture but more of an acurate drawing in like paint or photoshop of the person? or is just basically a no? i dont want to cause stardock any problems at all, i was just unclear, and if it would be getting them in trouble i wouldnt want to keep submitting things that could get them into hot water. and maybe they should post something saying that somewhere, like hey mod away, just be careful about actual pictures etc. while nobody makes a profit, it could be copyright infringement, so if we edited the pictures and changed them, is it ok then? or still bad?

Copyright infringement has nothing whatsoever to do with if anyone makes money or not. It means they own all the rights, and no one can use their stuff for any reason without their permission.

The klingon ships are ok because they are cartoons someone's original design, and not the actual designs used in the show. The word Kllngon itself has been in use long enough that it has probably entered the dictionary; it would be very hard for the Rodenberry corp or whoever owns the rights to Star Trek to prosecute this usage.

But actual photos - whether doctored or not, are a different thing - a good cp lawyer would have a slam dunk case. Same goes for actual logos.
