Starbase building in Beta 1.1

Yo, not sure if anyone reported it.

The journal mentioned that the AIs will be building starbases more effectively, but this doesn't change the mechanism of the starbase right?


The reason I ask is because in my recent game the Altarians managed to build 2 Influence starbases right next to each other. Also a military base was built by another race is just 1 parcel from these 2 influence base.


Uhm ... the 3 parcel limited due to traffic from 1.0x is still here right.

Nope, the limit has been changed to "only 4 Starbases per sector". So basically you can put 4 starbases right next to one another if you want, but you can only have 4 max (of any type). It's both a blessing and a curse for human players (especially for people like me who used to be able to fit 16 Starbases into a sector with the old system), although I have been told that the AI handles it alot better than the old "3 parsec" rule (a LOT less calculations). As for the note about building Starbases more effectively, I believe that just means they are upgrading their starbases more.

4 Starbases per sector? Interesting, That bodes well for super stacking influence starbases infront of a cluster of your enemies planets

I have seen more than 4 in a sector, but they belonged to different races. So I'm curious as to if it's really 4 starbases per sector belonging to 1 civ?

This was 1.1beta2 btw.

Yes, it's four per civ, per sector.

I hope they change back to 3 per parsec. That one made more sense, seeing as the bases have a Radial Effect, not Sector based.

I dunno if its only 4 I might have run into a bug then, I have 6 clustered around my home solar system.

I don't think the 4 limit includes resource bases, so if 2 of the 6 are resources there you are.

Otherwise, if all 6 are in a single sector square it may be a bug

I prefer flat out 4max per sector, race nonwithstanding.
If the AI bugger out-starbased you, you'll just have to take it or destroy his starbase to make room


It would also help the AI, I think, if the 4 places for starbases in the sector would be set in advance when generating the map. also, no big hurt to gameplay there. I always hated seeing starbases all cramped up together
