If the entire congress {both houses} did some serious work instead of plaing politics all the time, with less time spent trying to get re-elected America might be able to solve some problems, like fixing the infrastructure that needs so much help, trying to be less oil dependent, and butting out of everyone elses problems and taking care of OUR OWN YARD.

that will happen as soon as pigs fly.

the genius who proposed disguising a u-2 as a united nations aircraft to create a decoy he hoped iraq would be unable to resist attacking, thereby justifying the war he'd already planned.

Just why would the "genius" bother, kb? If you really buy this drivel, I've got some shit in my garage that I need to unload... post your address & I'll ship it out pronto, prepaid.

Now that would be one hell of an American Lifestyle. I don't see this being impossible.

But this is where the problem is. I don't mean thruthteller but that mentality that many Americans have that for some odd reason the American Gov't can not be changed for the better. Why not?

People once believed we could not fly, yet we changed that. People once believed that carts could not be moved without horses or som ekind of animal moving it, we changed that. Why can't we change our own Gov't, I thought it was a Gov't for the people by the poeple. I believe it can be done, but the American people must be educated in the political field in order for it to happen. If people only made it their business to learn more about politics and about their politicians before they went to vote then maybe we would have a better chance of a Gov't that would fix our own problems first before helping everyone else.

I know the best idea we can use to make our Gov't work better for us. We should adopt the idea that airlines use in emergency cases where the air mask drop from the roof of the plane, you are suppose to put the mask on yourself first before helping someone else put it on, like children. Even though that's kinda what the Gov't does today, they help themselves then help the American people, we just need to change that to help the American people then help the rst of the world.

DJ I agree that is a very plausible solution.

Just like eating veggies. They may not always be palatable but they are good for you.

One can dream though. I hate to think that the US is on it's way down the drain like other great empires such as the roman empire and the egyptians. I just can't fathom why the American people would let this country fall to the point of extintion, we can do so much and much better that it just doesn't make sense to me. I do believe that one day we will no longer be the greatest power in the world, but that won't mean that we will disappear like the romans did. I just find it too hard to believe.

as long as the people in office place the most importence on being re-elected over doing something positive, nothing will change.

Remember if we don't learn from history it is bound to repeat itself. We are puffed up thinking that it won't happen to us. Even in the athletic world it is harder to stay on top than any other place. As soon as one becomes the champion if they take it for granted they will be embarassed and thrown from their rank.

Another analogy. A tree doesn't destroy sidewalks and roads in one night. If allowed to grow in time it will cause great destruction.

the answer seems pretty simple then. Don't let them be re-elected. If you really want a government of the people, this would guarantee that those running for office are coming from "the people".

No more incentive to work on getting re-elected should mean more energy to do something. And less of a career in politics should bring people who actually want to work to get something useful done.

with the day to day trying to stay afloat just how would you unite the "people" into a nationwide cohesive force and vote the slackers out of office?

Look to ted kennedy he is a slacker and has been in office forever and MASSA CHEW SHITS just keeps re-electing him.

Sadly, this is how Virginia's Governor office works. By the VA constitution, an individual is not allowed to server two consecutive terms as Governor. They are allowed multiple terms, just not consecutive terms.

To our detriment, this doesn't make them any more inclined to actually getting anything done in the last part of their term. It just means they turn their efforts to getting their chosen successor groomed and prepped for the office instead of getting themselves reelected.

term limits or any facsimile of term limits comes with there own set of problems.
