AI not very bright on bright difficulty

Hi all,

I'm playing the Yor on BRIGHT intelligence. The Korx have just declared war on me. instead of attacking my fighters or military starbases they just send in a fleet of transports to conquer my planets.... Those transports don't have weapons so they get killed instantly... They do have fighters themselves but they remain behind to defend their planets...

This is too easy for me... Has anyone else experienced this before??

Tnx

They pull that stuff on me on Suicidal. Like they're not expecting me to defend my homeworld or something I'm sure they'll fix that...

Usually the transport comes in with escorts though.

Im playing on intelligent. The max setting in which the AI doesn't cheat i believe and I think this is too easy. Hopefully the next update will sort the AI out

You should let the AI play the YOR they play a much better and challenging game when you do. I had to bum rush them because they almost won an influence war. A human playing the YOR is already overpowering the AI they get too many bonuses and advantages. No wonder the game feels too easy.

I know exactly what you mean. Look up my post "Some examples on why the AI on intelligent needs to be better"
It's longer but details some of the obvious problems I've seen with the AI.

The AI never seems to plan "how do I defend" or "how do I attack" like a human would. People recon to determine enemy strength, and then plan an attack/defense based on likely odds of winning. If the odds don't look good, a human would look to other ways to get better odds or cancel the attack/retreat. Other ways to get better odds include delaying the attack to build up fleet strength, or taking out that starbase that's pumping up the enemy ship stats.

The AI doesn't seem to take into account odds of winning at all, it seems to just hit me with it's current best fleet, even if I just wiped out 3 or 4 of its current best fleets with minimal losses.

The AI also doesn't appear to take into account probability of being attacked by a superior fleet during the next turn. The AI often sends single ships/smaller fleets into range of my larger fleets, it's like like throwing them away.

I know exactly what you mean. In my current game I was waring with the Iconian refugees and had reduced their empire to half a dozen worlds along one edge of my border (two of which were in danger of cultrure flipping to me anyway). Iconia was able to mass a fleet of 4-5 fighters and overwhelm the defenses of one of my border worlds, but couldn't exploit it becase all his troop transports were destroyed when he tried to move 5 of them almost two sectors through my space wtihout escort to my heavily defended homeworld. 5000 legions dead in the dark of space...

The shame of it is, the AI showed flashes of very intelligent game play at the same time. The Drath used influence starbases to secure their small colonies in my territory (long before they were in dange of culture flipping) and the Iconians massed their missile fighters into a fleet of 5 ships to take down the ships defending one of my weaker border worlds.

Yes, the Ai is definatly in need of some tweaking. Overall, I think its very good, except for these points:

+ The mindboggling-amount-of-tiny-ships-sitting-in-one-corner-doing-nothing syndrome
+ Reckless sending of unarmed transporters
+ Outdated fleet usage
+ Generally unintelligent millitary behaviour, unable to see trough obvious counter-tactics.
+ Extremely illogical go-to-war logic (tend to war you solely based on millitary rating)
+ Equally illogical opt-for-peace logic (tend to not make peace despite huge losses but still high in mil. rating)

If they sort these obvious quirks out, it's going to be a killer AI!!

I am playing my second game (on Normal - first was on Beginner for a few years to learn GC). I have never played Gal Civ before although I have played Civ4 a bunch lately. I am crushing everyone. I realize that Normal is still down the list a ways, but I don't think I should have an easy time in my second ever game. I am starting a new game on a harder level and I hope I get slaughtered for a while until I understand all the mechanics.

Yeah, the AI does well strategicly, but has some serious tactical holes.

Also, have you guys noticed that the AI almost never builds farms? It means it has a weak economy, AND that planetary invasions are a lot easier than they could be.

High population lowers morale IIRC. You're better going with Market Centres early on I've been told.

I don't build farms either

I like to keep my population low, since it doesn't affect research or manufacturing... more tiles for the important stuff. I I build farms near the end of the game to raise my population in order to get a higher score for my economy.

SOmething is wrong with me. I get spanked on Bright Difficulty games. It's so frustrating. I usually start near Yor, and around 50 turns or so they declare war and bum rush me with transports. How do you geteconomy/research/proudction running before you get swamped by Yor fleets with 18 laser attack? It's pissing me off!

The AI builds farms on my game. Annoying because it's like 4 farms, so the population is huge. Luckily, I'll see them with only 40% happiness and just information war them.
