Ancient Artifact

In my game, I got message saying Thalans found an ancient artifact of immense power and if I don't destroy them soon they will get powerful and enslave me. Should I take this message seriously and attack them? We're at peace (close) and they have Iconian allies which are strongest (There are only three of us). Or is this message one of those messages that don't mean anything in practice? What does it actually mean?

I believe this Artifact is the thing that turns all planets in a certain radius to pq14 (or somethign like that) even if they were pq0. So yes if they know what they are doign they might destroy you

i think you should.
there are powerfull artefacts that races (you also) can find in the game that make you really powerfull.
i dont know exactly how powerfull or what it does......hmmm quess im of no much help to you

I think this random event grants the race that receives it a +1 bonus to a civilization stat every turn...or something like that.

Yes, there was something similar in GC I.
They would start getting outrageous bonuses... do rip 'em or ally with them!

Hmmm... Ok I see. It's not going to be pretty cos that pretty much means I'm gonna fight both Thalans and Iconians (which are #1). They are ally. I just allied with Thalans. Now all I need to do is to somehow make Iconians ally with me.

its nothing to do with PQ, they start to get insane production values. I saw the Yor get it, and since I was surrounded by the Drengin who I was at war with, I had to fight my way through. The Yor went from 8th to 1st, and I had to sacrifice a lot of valuable planets (incluing a 27 which I lost through not having enough defences, seeing how I moved my fleet ), and the only reason I beat them is because the Terrans had taken the brunt of the Yor assauly (they had previously been first), and surrendered to me when the Yor had decimated them. It was a close call, an event I pray I never see again

In my last game the Altarians found a precursor starship and used it against me. Was pretty much unstoppable. Had to buy peace.

What if YOU uncovered an ancient artifact? Would you have to stop yourself?

Actually can this event ever happen to the player? Does luck have anything to do with this?

I'm not sure the event CAN happen to the player. It'd be, like, "easy win" if you did get it, honestly. Hunker back for a while, let the bonuses build up, then wipe the floor with everyone else. I certainly HOPE the player can't get it...

I think I've actually got this once in GalCiv1. I'm not sure, but if I remember, I was in last place and I got it. However, one of the strong races eventually (in the next 50 turns) came by and stomped me, so it didn't matter.

This last game that i've been playing has made me rethink the luck skill. I have a race of people that have the luck ability and they have uncovered 5 ranger class starships. This is during a time period in the game where there is mostly medium hulled ships around.

The artifact raise some of the stats by an x ammont per turn Ithink, I saw this event once and the AI was crushed by another before it could ave been dangerous.

Interesting, I was thinking it was lame and didnt mean much, but now Im worried. I got the message many turns ago for the Drengin (who were #1 in military and economy at the time). Im in the corner with a substantial tech lead on everyone and a huge economic lead now, but #3 military (I simply cant pump them out fast enough).

Taking on the Drengin would take going through their ally (they are #1 and #2 military), who are all surrounding me and all the good races are gone.

This game might get interesting afterall.

Ive seen this happen twice already and last time it happen that civilization got declared war upon after 5 turns by 3 other races was funny

I received the precurser starship fairly early in the game once and pretty much laid waste. Haven't had anything else spectacular though.

If you conquer the civ that possessed this artifact, would you get it yourself? Or is it just a transitory bonus that only applies to the civ that gets it directly?

but #3 military (I simply cant pump them out fast enough).

Go to the civilization manager and look at all your colonies. Find the one with the highest production rate, then surround it with economy starbases with all possible manufacturing modules. You're production will skyrocket. See this pic to see what five of them can do to Earth: http://www.mikehealan.com/pix/ss/starbaseassist.jpg

As far as that message, I've played several games now where someone has gotten that, and they didn't get very much more powerful. Maybe they were destroyed before it could become obvious, but I never saw any advantage it gave them.
