Shipnames v0.1 for Galactic Civilizations 2 v1.0X

Do you always find yourself trying to use core design names for your ship classes? If you do then this small mod will help ease the pain by adding a Stardock (SD) prefix to most of the core ship names. Colony Ship, Constructor, and Survey ships remain restricted core design names as they are already present at the start of a new game. Previous save games are not compatible.

Game crashes if you try to play a campaign map that uses one of the core ships. The internal names for core designs are needed by the game for some things. If Stardock changes user designed ships to have an internal name prefix (say UD_ like the custom ship filenames), then you would be able to name your ships the same. Good attempt though

Hrmm yeah I do not play campaign mode, that would be why I did not notice that. It does work in free play though. Honestly I think core ship designs need a hidden prefix or more abstract names. Players should be able to name their ship classes the same way. Frigate, Destroyer, Cruiser, Battlecruiser, Battleship, Dreadnought, Titan etc etc.

It still may be possible to fix the campaign names. It's taking those campaign designs from somewhere else (228 designs in the data folder) or there is already a ship on the map with the old name. Thanks for the feedback. For now it only works in free play. It does work on accelerated starts or chaos aswell.

I think the ship names are coded into the campaign. All the shipcfg files are just how the design looks. They contain text that points to the hull model and what hardpoints point to what models. I recently figured out how to make new core ships, so that's the only reason I knew about the problem with campaigns.

A new version v0.2 has been released that allows the player to use the name Constructor. Only Colony Ship and Survey Ship remain restricted as they are present on a map when it is created.

It has been noted that this small mod does not work in campaign mode because of ships already populating the map.
