Upgrading Ships

HELP!!!!

Can anyone tell me how to upgrade weaponry on ships?? Can it even be done??

I've researched the rail gun thingy and i wanna put it on my cruisers, but can't.

And does the upgrade depend on the size of ship??

Go into the shipyard and design a ship class using that weapon, then you will be able to upgrade ships of the same hull size to that new class. Try and have them close to one of your worlds or starbases, or it will take longer and upgrading ships are sitting ducks.

yeah - you can only upgrade total ships - not just parts of them. Makes sense, but it sucks sometimes when you want to just 'upgrade' weapons or shields eh?

You don't want to go there. Yes, you can upgrade every ship in its class at the same time. However...I wanted to put on newer engines and weapons (about 80c of upgrades) on the ships. The upgrade contractor wanted to charge 870c per ship and over 19,000c to do the job. Granted it would be done in one turn, but no way I can afford 19,000c in one turn. AHA! there is a "lease" option...pay about 200c per ship now and 16c/ship every turn for the next 100 turns. Yipee!!! I did upgrade a single ship just to see how it all worked, but it really is easier just to build all new and decomission as you go.

I am curious where is the option to upgrade all ships. Believe it or not I upgrade all ships regularlily and have to do it manually. Worse yet I have to break fleets and space the ships out in individual tiles because you dont get the upgrade button This is a huge pain on a Gigantic maps which I play as of late.

Yeh when your ships are in fleets you don't get as many options, or even if they are stacked. Hopefully that will be fixed in the next update.

That was my point, that i dont have the option to upgrade a ship type in one option. Has to be done individualy.
And I can see the benefit of just building new ships to replace the old, but when you have a level 17 ship with about 80 hit points its not that easy to bin them.

There is a tick box on the upgrade screen, just below the picture of the ship. if you select it, it will show you the cost for all your ships, including those in orbit etc.
