I agree that it is a lot more complex than the nay-sayers pose it. I have to be honest, though, and question why this hasn't been done on a regular basis. Why this week? Why not last week, or last month?
They know these towns. They know where the areas are that US soldiers will be attacked 100% of the time if they wander too close. Those areas need to be crushed, period, until they invite us in, or there's nothing left to visit.
Areas that haven't given up their arms are still at war, but we are treating them as if they aren't. I support this operation, and I don't believe it is totally politically motivated, but I believe that measures like this could have been underway long before now. There have been a lot of straws to break the camel's back lately, but the time to crush this violence was before these most heinous attacks were undertaken.
