I'm a Class-Bigot

Supeckted loses it

So Friday morning driving down the freeway I'm in no rush of any kind when I exit to head West from going South. The mood is elevated, but demeanor is good. Foo Fighters are being played at high volume and despite the sore throat...singing along occurs. As I make my way on the exit I come to the set of lights which "meter" drivers onto the other freeway. For those not familiar with these meters, they are two small stop lights that are designed to break up traffic during high commuting times.

Anyway, like a good citizen (at least at this point) I stop to await the 10 second or so for my light to turn green. Apparently this choice is unacceptable by the driver of a brand new mercedez behind me. With arms flailing and mouthed words that I must assume are less than civil he tries to swerve around me. Instinctively I gun my 89 town car jack knifed across the exit and cut him off as we both begin flying toward the merge lane of our destination freeway. Middle fingers are exchanged along with more mouthed verbal vomit and just as we come up to merge (myself in front, he right on my tail) I slam on the brakes forcing said driver to slam on his brakes to avoid driving right through the back of my car.

Now I'm forced (as a result of my own actions) to merge with traffic going 60+ MPH while I'm going about 15 and the town car doesn't have the best acceleration....by some act of God I make it to work with a few more exchanged dirty looks.

Immediately following this altercation only one thing is going through my head.......I'm an idiot. I'm usually a bigger man than this, especially on the road.....I never have much reason to be in a hurry and don't find it conducive to my mood to make driving life more difficult for other drivers who have some place to get to just like me.

I'm pretty sure I did this for one reason. Well two, A) the guy was an asshole, and B) he was driving a mercedez. When I decided to slam on the brakes I knew my mentality was that this guy in no way will want to hit my car. In fact it's likely that his front bumper and grille, which were just a few inches from being dragged down the freeway by my trailer hitch, are worth more than my entire car. I exploited this fact to my full advantage....and on occasion I don't mind pointing out to people who are being rude how unacceptable their actions are......but at what cost.

I end up spending the rest of the day upset at my childish behavior and stewing over what kind of accident could've resulted cause I wouldn't let one asshole get away. Instead, I just let him create another asshole. Perhaps this is why the kids tried to put gum in my hair....Kharma?

I have to agree, your reactions to the other driver were totally out of line. This is what brings on road rage and causes people to become injured or worse. Next time try to remember what goes around comes around and let a jerk be a jerk. Your life is much too important to put into jeopardy. They will eventually learn their lessons but not at your expense. Always drive professionally. You may want to consider going to a professional driving school if you find that in the future you once again can't control your anger. GCJ

Yeah, sadly, I am too, when it comes to driving. It's always the ones with the fancy cars who tend to do all the challenging on the road. Just because my crapcar can't accelerate as fast, doesn't mean that I can't drive at the proper speed once I get going. And that's when tend to show them who's boss.

Actually, I suppose I am a shitty driver, at least in terms of manners. I do a lot of swearing. I'm not a road-rager, but jeez, if you've got a decent vehicle, take advantage of it's quality... but don't be an ass about it. Oh, and people with nice wheels who park on the diagonal in a parking lot so no harm will come to their doors by other parkers are infuriating. Makes me want to take the keys to their nice paint job, or at the very least, ram a shopping cart into their snappy-looking rides.

Nicky,
I, too, am a Parking Lot Vigilante. If someone parks like that, and I park next to them, and intentionally open my door quickly, just in case it will be long enough to scratch. I don't do this if people park like assholes way in the back of a nearly empty lot, because at least they're not being dicks about it.

My friend Brandon owns some vinyl cutting equipment (to make decals for cars and what not) and we always had the plan to go around campus (this is when I lived on campus, where there was very little parking even for people who paid to do it) and put decals that said "Thanks for parking like an asshole!" on the cars of those who did park like assholes. It takes seconds to apply and a long time to get off.

And, yeah, I realize I'm going to get flack for being a Parking Lot Jerk, but it'll probably be from people who are way to uptight about their cars, and I don' really care what they think anyway.

And Ted, don't sweat it. Yeah, maybe you should have been the bigger man, but no one's perfect. If the worst thing you've done all week is make an angry asshole angrier, I'd consider your week a success.

I admire the fact that you admitted that you were wrong. No matter how another person drives, driving badly ourselves is not escusable. Cars are death traps,
we should treat them and other drivers with respect. On the other hand, most of us have driven badly one way or another. As for people who protect their expensive cars--I can understand the motive, but the way they do it just angers others into vandalism.

Make sure you are careful who you piss off. Who knows if the person you cut off or cuts you off could retaliate. You don't want to end up shot for gaining 5 seconds on you trip. But I do applaud you for admitting you were in the wrong! I know I personally ussually blame driving woes on the "other driver".

Thanks for the insight guys. Hopefully there won't be many of these stories in my blog....or if there are such unfortunate occurenences that I better eleviated rather than accelerated the problems.

I was just saying that since you found Tennessee so fun....sounds like something someone from ND would say. Yeah, this has been a week of personal assessment.....as did this morning after a rousing night of drinking for my 23rd b-day.

Funny story...

Portsea is the beach closest to Melbourne where all the Affluent have holiday homes and tennis clubs. The beach is actually a National park, so to park there you have to pay $4.00.

We were walking from my friends house, and the concrete was excessively hot, Muggaz got blisters on his hot feet.. this was because there was a plethora of Mercedes and Jags and BMWs all parked illegally on the grass by the side of the road on the way to the beach because they were too tight to part with $4.00, so i couldn't walk on refreshing grass, and my feet were sore as a result of these millionaires tight assness.

On our way back from the beach, we noticed that these tight assess all had parking fines of $50.. sweet i thought, the system is going to get back at these bastards... good for the system, however, for the crime of burning my feet, i confiscated these parking fines, so the offenders would have had a rather pleasant day at the beach, and they could expect an increased fine in the mail because of failure to pay on the due date....

Interesting. While your actions is wrong, you admitted it so its good. I also hate those who try to gain 2 or 3 seconds by doing something that endanger others. My car is only one I have, and I cannot afford to replace it or anything, so I worry about someone doing that kind of crap and wrecks my car.

I also hate those who love to go then suddenly stops when light turns green. It's like they were thinking "ohh its green! ( releases brake ) OOPS there's still cars in front of me." Usually, I give those people very wide distance.
