Gum in my hair

The school story of the week

I am going to try to keep doing this as a regular feature since it seems there is always at least one story worth sharing about my work week.

I don't think I'm alone when I say that this has been a long week. The kids were a bit more unruly than normal which, somedays keeps me more entertained and awake than others. Though there were many candidates for this weeks story I think I'm going to keep it short and sweet.

Friday morning I walked down to the computer lab with a number of kindergarteners and 4 years olds ("juniors" as we refer to them) and helped each of them get set up in the Kid-Pix program before I began scouring Joeuser for interesting blogs. Not more than 10 minutes into my own business I felt my hat rise up off my head to a duet of giggling behind me. I didn't even turn around and instead just told whoever the culprits were to put it back on my head. The giggles continued as I felt an attempt to reach my head and replace the stolen article to it's rightful place. Despite my poor posture while sitting at the computer they couldn't reach my head and I saw the hat fall to the side of me. Ordinarily this wouldn't seem like too big of a deal, but following the hat to ground was a recently chewed piece of gum.

As I quickly did the math I turned to see two boys laughing in disappointment at their attempted prank. When I confronted them, partially in disbelief, "Did you guys just try to put gum in my hair?" "Yeah, but it didn't work," came the similarly unbelievable reply. Though I am planning on getting my hair cut sometime this weekend I'd rather it be out of motivation other than having a 5 year olds gum in my hair.

This has been the school story of the week,

no, that's why you're here.....you hired the hip young kid in hopes that some of his coolness would rub off........and it's true that I'm much less cool now, but I don't think it's because you took any of my coolness.

Yeah - don't be doing that Trinitie. It will give him a big head and it really doesn't need to swell anymore!

Well, no, I'm not a "teacher" perse', as in the licensed lesson plan underpaid underappreciated type people. Though I am underpaid....my job begins when the teacher's ends...or hasn't begun, so I either prep the kids for a day of learning or help them with the cool down period following a full day at school.

Oh and there's some 4-5 year old time in there as well.

And Ted's Boss, come on, you've seen the hats I wear...like my head can get any bigger.
