The scoring is completely twisted....

...and evil

I've come to two conclusions on how one gets a high (100k+) score.

1) Play on a Gigantic map.
2) Set difficulty to 'Suicidal' or whatever is higher.

Then you get to be in the top 50. Woo hoo! Good for you.

Unfortunately, there are those of us that enjoy 'competing' on the Metaverse that are not good enough at the game to win often (or at all) on settings above 'Normal'. Therefore we will never be 'competitive' and may as well just forget about the Metaverse altogether. My empire and I have had much discussion about points scoring and none of us has managed 50k yet. So, yeah, we don't really know how points are scored but I assume my two points above are the major factors.

My suggestion:

Expand the Metaverse. Have a Top 100 for each difficulty. Have the Empires ranked in each 'difficulty ranking' by the average scores from players in that empire that play on that difficulty. An example.

Player A and Player B play 'Suicidal' games on Gigantic galaxies and that is all. They are in Empire A.
Player C and Player D play 'Normal' games on Gigantic galaxies and that is all. They are also in Empire A.
Player E and Player F play 'Normal' games on Gigantic galaxies and that is all, they consistently score higher than Players C and D. They are in Empire B.

For the sake of the example...these are the only 6 players and the only 2 empires in this 'expanded' Metaverse. The results are as such:

You would go to the Metaverse and click 'Top Ranked Players' and then click on a difficulty. Let's say you picked 'Suicidal'.

#1 Player B with 10 games submitted 10 wins 0 losses and 410,000 points.
#2 Player A with 7 games submitted 7 wins 0 losses and 370,000 points.
(Player B has a medal named 'First Place - Suicidal, Player A has 'Second Place - Suicidal')

Then you click 'Normal'. and get...

#1 Player E with 11 games submitted 11 wins 0 losses and 58,000 points.
#2 Player F with 11 games submitted 11 wins 0 losses and 57,550 points.
#3 Player D with 12 games submitted 11 wins 1 loss and 48,000 points.
#4 Player C with 8 games submitted 7 wins 1 loss and 41,000 points.
(Player E has a medal named 'First Place - Normal, Player F has 'Second Place - Normal, etc)

Then you go to Empires and select 'Suicidal' where you would see that Empire A is top ranked. Their players all have a medal called 'First Place Empire - Suicidal'. While if you selected 'Normal' you would see that Empire B is top ranked and their players have a 'First Place Empire - Normal' medal.

Eventually some more players in Empire A start playing on 'Normal' and some from B play 'Suicidal'. A few days later you look at the top empires and pick 'Suicidal' and see something like...

#1 Empire A - 2,874,000
#2 Empire B - 400,100

Then you click on 'Normal' and see that Empire B still has the most points on 'Normal'.

#1 Empire B - 250,000
#2 Empire A - 110,000

Everyone in A still has their same medals and everyone in B still has theirs. People are happy that they can play on a difficulty they are comfortable with and still feel like they're being competetive. That's my theory, anyway.

Not to mention this was supposed to be in the Metaverse forum but ended up here instead. Even though I picked 'Metaverse' as the forum. Ah well.

Let me think about this.

Wednesday night I won the 4th Dread Lords campaign on level Tough. In the end mission summary my military score was lower than the Drengin! I destroyed 75 enemy ships(including many Dread Lords frigates), lost only 1(a constructor), and lost 1 Billion troops invading the Drengin planet giving me a score of 502. They only destroyed 1 enemy ship, lost 24 ships, and lost 10 Billion troops due to my invasion of their planet giving them a score of 599! What gives!!! I created various screenshots of the mission including this report but I don't have an URL I can post them to. I know there are sites that give out free web space (e.g., Geocities, later bought by Yahoo) and I think my ISP does to so maybe I'll add them later. Maybe I'll e-mail it off to [email protected].

Grr.  That would be a bad idea.  There's now something like 70,000 people running around with GalCiv II.  You shoudl not even be thinking of emailing a problem report to tech support simply because you don't like the scoring system.

Because someone ends up having to sort that stuff and that means someone with a real problem would have to wait.  Bug reports should consist of bugs.

I thought I already could see rankings in metaverse with difficult level and other stuff.
Use the filter thingy

I could, but I don't want to have to factor in Galaxy Size and Alignment as well as the difficulty. I also was discussing medals and such...to keep up morale.

The odds are not as high as you think.
Played a challenging game in gigantic with neutral for over 100k points.
Of course, it took me several weeks to finish the game but its not impossible nor very difficult.
It just takes action
Taking over the Galaxy was not meant to be an easy task or we would all be doing it....oh wait.. we are!

Bad jokes aside, I'm not sure how accurate the scoring is considering my challenging game had such a high score compared to some higher difficulty games that I see here.
