Best Game Set-up for Newbies

Hi All,

I've been fiddlling with this game now for about a week and I'm eager to start a challenging large game, but I'm not sure what size of galaxy, how many opponents, difficulty level, etc... to start with. I have a lot of experience with Gal2's genesis Masters of Orion (that was so long ago!), but little with this game. I want a challenge but not get myself smashed into smithereens. I also don't want it easy either.

Any suggestions from people with some experience themselves? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also apologize if there have been other posts on this - I simply couldn't find them.

Thanks for your help in advance,

neef

My suggestion would be 3 normal or bright (or lower depending on how much a challenge you want) opponents on a medium map. You may not win your first time but you probably won't be crushed and you should get an introduction to all the major aspects of the game such as the rush to colonize, diplomacy and good ol' fashioned warfare. Though you may want to goof around with cakewalk just to get a feel for the game before playing a real match......but I know what your saying, if its not challenging its not fun.
