Technically they can, but that'll break the alliance. I'm pretty sure that they AI won't do that unless your relations with them really start to sour. As long you remain on good terms with each other there shouldn't be a problem.

About Alliances? How do you get there?

You need to research Alliances, is there anything else?

I ask, because I don't see the option in the Negotiation screen.. I imagine it should be in the Treaties section, but I don't see it. Does it also depend on how the other race sees you? As in they have to be Friendly or more to you, before you get the option?

Thanks in advance.

The AI have to be 'Close' to you. In the diplomacy screen underneath the AI pic you will see varying degrees of there relationship to you. Once they are close the Alliance option will show up. They may not take the alliance though if you are weak in military. Gift them a few techs and they will usually accept.

I have two questions about alliances:

1.If I am allied with another race, and somebody declares war on me, does the race I am allied with automatically join the war on my side?

2.Is it possible to suggest another race to ally with someone else? I mean in the same way as I can suggest "Attack..." or "Make Peace..." in diplomacy screen.

Palatoss:

1) If someone declares war on you, your ally must either join you or break the alliance. If you declare war on someone, the ally doesn't have to join you.

2) I have never seen such an option, and doubt it exists, but I'm not 100% on that.

What happens if you forge an alliance with someone who is ALREADY at war with another race. Does this auto throw you straight into a war?

Nothing happens. You only enter wars that are declared after you two were allied. And it gets better - if your two allies are fighting amongs themselves, you don't have to choose sides, you can just help each of them behind the scenes and remain allied to them both. Even though its a bit unrealistic, I like it that way.
