Question about Upgrading Space Vehicles

Hello reader,
Can you explain to me why sometimes, if you press upgrade design, you make some changes, the design refuses to be upgraded but somehow becomes an entirely new vessel and the old ones never get upgrades?

Tnx

Yeah, I noticed what I think is the same thing a few times. I basically just don't update ships anymore...

Hmm, never had this problem. By any chance, are you also altering the name of the ship class?

If so, then you will form a seperate design and will have to upgrade your ships manually.

Change the class name after you finish your alterations.

Can you expand on that a little? All I've see are name changes, not any kind of class change. Plus, when I go to upgrade, my obselete ships show up. But even when I *know* I pick the correct one to upgrade to, I get a couple errors:

1) Sometime my ship won't let me upgrade it...it just won't accept my orders. Same hull, same design, just a single weapon change.

2) I see multiple versions I have obseleted...and that can be pretty damn confusing.

3) I pick the right ship to upgrade to...but I get a different result than expected.

They need to improve this section of the game IMHO, as it detracts from the fun in designing them.

haha
no seriously... it's a real issue. I will run some more tests to see what the cause of the problem is

Hmmm, if you upgrade a ship and keep the same name you get the option to upgrade all the older ships. If you delete said desiegn while you still have ships out in the fleet you will lose those ships, and make a little cash from the scrapping.

Thats the only time I ever noticed a whole line of ships being deleted. When you delete the whole Blueprint.

In 1.0X the problem is still there. I ran some more tests, but I couldn't find any solid behaviour that triggered the problem. It seems to be totally random, but the more I change, the more often I don't get the upgrade-screen (where you have to pay). I'm not sure this is normal.

It's a dumb set of bugs. You should add a version number to your ships. That will minimize or completely remove the problem. Since I've been doing it, my obsoleted ships stay obsoleted, and I've not had any problems.

You do realize that it doesn't change the name of the ship when you upgrade it, right? eg: if you Upgrade "Fighter" to "Superfighter" the name of the ship you upgrade will still show as "Fighter 56756786" and not "Superfighter 56756786.

I've seen it also. I'll upgrade a design, then change the version number, and usually it works : all my current construction of the old design switch to the new, automatically. Clearly the game has understood what I was doing.

But sometimes, the game does not make the switch automatically, and I have to do it manually through the governor screen. No big deal, the governors work just fine, but it does make me wonder what is going on.

I've the impression that when you choose to delete a design there is a pop up window asking if you want to scrap the corresponding ships for a little money. But I've never seen my ships disappear, and I upgrade them quite often (I don't like to go through the design thing all over just to add better weapons).
