Shipyard help

Today was my first sit down with GC II since getting it. I just want to say that for the short time I played it, it was awesome! Except, I couldn't seem to be able to build a shipyard. I was playing the first mission in the campaign. The building wasn't available for construction on the list, so I couldn't produce any ships.
I thought I just had to research the right tech to unlock it, but I couldn't find any references to the shipyard in the tech tree and none of the techs I was unlocking was helping. How do I enable the shipyard? I'm really hoping this isn't a bug.

I just realized what the problem was, my military spending was 0% and the Starport was allowing ship construction. It just wasn't going anywhere cause I didn't put anything into the military budget. Ok, that was dumb. It was pretty early in the morning when I was playing so maybe I wasn't all there....

If it says build time never, it means one of two things:

Either your industrial capacity on the planet was at 0 (build a factory , or check your military production slider)

-or-

You're paying off debt below -500 BC, in which case, that just takes time, and more taxes/less production.

I've got a question on building ships at a starport, so I figured I'd hijack this thread to ask it.

If I go to my starport from the planet screen, I can see all of the ships I can build and can select one and pick 'buy' at that point. I cannot, however tell it to start BUILDING one! I have tried double clicking the ship I want it to start building, I have selected the ship I want it to build and picked both 'back to planet' and 'done' with no results. The *only* way I've been able to get a starport to start building a ship type is to use the quick starport interface from the main galaxy interface. This is fine and easy to use, but sometimes when I've been looking at a planet and picking social projects I might want to just click the starport button from there and have it start building a ship for me, too. Am I missing something, or is there a missing button from within the full starport screen?

It will start building whatever you had selected when you select done.

I've had that same bug, where the shipyard won't change ships. The workaround I've been doing is to select a ship, then click "purchass" and then "cancel". That works.

nevermind....when I came into the link I only saw the first post and now I see you have this well in hand.

Agreed. The button in the Starport for "Back To Planet" cancels your new build selection. I want it keep my new build selection and go back to the colony view. If I wanted to cancel out of there, I would hit Escape, or press a missing cancel button.

Frustrating. Next step for Star Dock: hire someone with training in designing user-friendly UI.
