3DSMax .X importer?

Does anyone know of one?

I've found a .X exporter for 3DSMax, but I want to find a Importer so I can look at the models that are already made so I can learn from them. I've looked on Google but all my searches don't come up with anything useful. :(

Thanks to any help.

I've looked, couldn't find anything. There is a .X importer plug-in for Blender, but it's not perfect. You could go from that, export to 3ds, and open it in Max for extra fun.

This should work. Just make sure that when you get the model into 3DS max that you select all of your vertices and do a weld. That way you'll get a proper model and viewport display. Exported 3DS files have issues with keeping vertices together. Not Blender's fault though. It's just an inherent problem with the format.

Wow that will be nice to have. I alsways find that if you have a model that is ready to export, it is easier to learn what is needed and how it should be placed on the model for it to work properly in game.

Hope you have better luck with the belnder X importer. I tried it, but it seems to lose the UVW/material data, making it sorta useless.

I went ahead and posted a sample ship, and several structures that use its same textrue. And posted it over in the mods library.

I just took a look at the model and i have to say it was very helpful in learning how to model and the necessary points that are needed to use the components. Nice job. Cant wait for the tutorial.

Have a look for "3D Exploration". It's a tool that can convert X files into 3DS. Evaluation versions can be found througout the web.

Edit: Grabbing the latest DirextX SDK from Microsoft and installing it will toss in plugins to 3ds Max so it will export to .X It does not do that out of the box.
