Gal Civ 2 - so where are all the gals in Gal Civ2?

Gal Civ 2 - so where are all the gals in Gal Civ2?

Lame joke, I know.

It does appear like the game is lacking any sort of feminine race/leaders though. What do you guys think?

Wow, it seems like the atmosphere is quite.. tense.

I started the post saying:

I did not meant to ask for "some green women with large human mammaries" or " 21 year old intern with implants and stilettos." I also didn't meant to upset anyone with what I thought was a rather silly but harmless comment.

With that said.. I have to disagree with some of the points above.

It's not about being PC. It's about being real. You have a 4X game, allowing you to role-play the dictator of an imperial government.

So earth is somehow united under the rule of some dictator and it will take months of research to re-discover republic, democracy, or federation? If anything, I would think that the various alien races we meet will have different type of government systems and then later develop refined form of that said system, much like master of orion 2.
It would also be unlikely for the federation to have 75% bonus to research/economy/industrial where as democracy has a bonus of 50% and republic 25%. Differnet type of government should have different bonuses.

now back to the topic.. as Lavok47 mentioned, it is likely that the scientists might have discovered something to halt the process of aging. Plastic Surgery and various cosmetic surgery would also be more advanced.. leaders try to make themselves look good too, you know? And if anything.. the altarians look like some gangster with earrings..

And just as I mentioned before.. leaders aren't limited to political leaders. They could also be from the fields of science, military, or cultural. In which case,
In all mature governments where there are orderly transfers of power, the heads of state are old.
does not necessary apply.

Look at it this way... at least we don't have the bazillion "XYZ is so HOT!!!!!" posts here, like in some other forums for another recently released turn based strategy game...

But I do agree that some female leaders would be good for at least the humanoid races.

oh yeah.. if we want to talk about realism and how it's unlikely for young people to be leaders..

I would think galciv has too many humanoid aliens.

But yeah, the point is not about hot young girls.. but female leaders. That's not uncommon.

Nobody misses the elerians. They used to mind control my colonies repeatedly. damn blue elf like things.

Yes...like jklgon, I'm wondering where all the stuff about "some green women with large human mammaries" or " 21 year old intern with implants and stilettos," came from, because I didn't see anything in the original post to even remotely imply that they were requesting anything like that.

Maybe I'm just in the minority in that I can read the word "feminine", or "female" without immediately conjure up a mental image of some sci-fi supermodel in a skimpy bikini...

Heck, with enough fluff and background information, you can define femine.
I read a nice amount of military sci-fi of all varieties from serious to farsical.

One fiction/species had "Battle Mothers". For instance, perhaps Drengin females can be bigger and tougher. Just have the background fluff to explain it. It's not unprecedented, just look at the Black Widow Spider (who the Drengin would probably adopt as their national pet, with an approved diet of human children). Make Drengin females have even more vicious diplomatic text.

And the Yor? I'll only mention in passing the jokes on male/female connectors, hard drives, and so on. Male and female would only be a fleshy weakness. If a player had to declare their robot leader has a gender, maybe just something as simple as a red/blue racing stripe. Or, if the Yor somehow turned into a goody-two-shoes race, the boys would wear a NASCAR cap with a bottle of hard oil and the females would weild a My Pretty Pony laser pistol and have Hello Kitty on their exterminating battleships just before they drop asteroids on an defending planet.

Spiders and whimsy aside, I'll shut up.

I guess I won't shut up after all. I'd love to have custom race portraits (female) in Single Player, but I'm somewhat worried about tasteless/crappy race portraits in possible future MP.

I'd say, in a MP game of some sort, only let me choose from official portraits, serious male and female included.

I'd say, in a SP game of some sort, let me get revenge on the Yor (for whooping my arse) by giving them an Idiot AI and a race portrait that puts them in a little pink dress.

I'd play nine out of ten games with serious portraits (side benefit: less trouble uploading a story to the forum), but I'd like to have the option, in the remainder as a tiny easy map, to have the Elerians or female Mrrshans. Or maybe have a Star Trek parody campaign.

My point was that the only thing keeping you (or anyone else) from considering most of the race leaders to already be female is your assumptions about what that ought to look like. Therefore, the only logical interpretation of your comment is that you want leaders that look recognizeably human by human standards - with all that that entails, including (generally speaking) breasts, slighter stature, finer features, etc, etc. Hence my comment re: green women with large cleavage.

The only nit I might pick regarding the game's design in this vein has already been pointed out, and that is that the both Altarian and Human leaders are caucasian males, which they ought not to be in any representative sense.

Very true, as a human, I naturally assumed female aliens to resemble female human or have the feminine traits that creatures on earth have.
In reality, it is probably not the case.
However, this is not really about getting horny and demanding some hot girl potrait. This is just something one naturally assumes based on what he/she has experienced.
Similarly, most of the alien races in galciv have facial feature similar to that of human with two eyes, one nose, one mouth. While iconian has weird mouth and maybe no nose and korx doesn't seem to have eyes or mouth, the features of the alien remain essentially humanoid.
This is probably because the designers at stardock are used to the image of human and thus made the other sentient species to look humanoid and resemble human. There is no reason that they have to look humanoid, but they do.

as a final note.. the Drengin are starting to look feminine to me. What the heck, oh well.

I miss them. I love mind control. Blue is good.

I for one, would like to see a playable barbaric female race.... like the elerins ... hehe
Reply #37 Top
Admiral Kane from Battlestar Galactica would make a reasonable female leaderhead to me. It did kind of irk me that there are only three human heads (if you include the Altarian); none of them really fit what I envisioned for my custom race.

But then, I guess that's what modding is for.

Well, let's see who's definitely stated to have gender:

Male
Alan Bradley - Male, duh, look at his portrait
Netro Mancer - Ditto
Lord Vega -Lord is a male title, so probably male
Lord Kona -ditto
Lord of the Drath - This may just be a title, s/he seems to have no name
Emperor Iso the Wise - Emperor is a male title

Female
Hithesius - Insect culture, women are in charge

Nongendered
N1 - robot

Undecided, or possibly nongendered or multigendered
Kralax of Korx - possible
Tlas Ldkbthas- I can't spell its name

What about the good GNN robot? She looks cute....

There's a female portrait in the library that you can download.

that was from another post that happened a while after thread was started

as for good GNN robot.. I play neutral so I wouldn't know

Heh. I'd like to see some female leaderheads, myself, just for variety. And, also, because the founder of the militaristic, xenophobic, genocidal Terran Empire in one of my scifi universes is Empress Elaine Trevella I. And I'd much like to customize it accurately in-game.

I think people are looking for an "attractive" female portrait. And no, Lord Kona does not qualify as good-looking. I would like to see female portraits that are indeed distinguishable. Don't care if they're old, attractive, sexy, odd-looking (even though variety helps).

Believe me, we bugged them in beta about this very issue...
