Economic Starbases

If I place an economic starbase on one of my trade routes and build a Trading Post module, this should provide an income bonus. My question is this: does the bonus only apply while the mini-freighter is within the starbases's radius, or does it apply at all times provided the trade route passes through the radius?

I ask because it really doesn't seem like it could be worth it if the mini-freighter must be present. The most profitable trade routes are the longest ones, and if I build a trading post on a long (profitable) trade route, the mini-freighter will rarely be within range.

The way I understand it:

Only when it is in range of the starbase and it only affects the income that the freighter brings in when it is in that particular sector. (freighter income is greater when it is further away) It also increases the income from incoming freighters but I don't know how the multiplier works. (Is it still higher the further away or is it reversed since it is their freighter and not yours) If anybody knows that I would like to know myself.

I think but I am not certain that since they have changed the zones of starbase influence from sectors to a radius of influence it may be possible to get the benefit in more than one sector if you build near the grid line.

In GC1 I would build them all along the route but in this game the logistics limit that.

Bottom line the increase of trade income from a home planet starbase would be better (especially if the planet is doing a lot of trade) but not neccessarily huge. However, the production bonuses from factory modules are very helpful and make the econ starbase an overall good deal.

as I understand it the sphere of effect of an economic starbase has to include the planet a trade route starts/ends.

it should be a 10/20/30% bonus on top of the trade income of that planet in total.

of course it doesnt mean that its actually working like that, or working at all (like social/research production bonus ).

No, it does not have to be on a trade route. The way it works is like this:

Economic Starbase "A" has enough modules to provide +20% bonus to trade routes.

Planets "B", "C" and "D" are in the "effect radius" of Starbase "A".

All trade routes to planets "B", "C" and "D" get a 20% bonus.

Sure the planets B C and D will get the bonus, because the trade routs to those planets are coming through the star base influence.

From the manual: "Economic Starbases increase the value of trade routes when your freighters pass through their area of effect." However, I also do not know if that mini-freighter itself needs to be in the influence. I suspect though that not, otherwise it would be illogical: the trade roots generate the income always, not only when the mini-freighter arrives.

I have built an economic starbase next to 2 trade routes. How do i check what is my profit (if any)?

The starbase info page (where the guns and such is displayed, accessed through the “i” when you have clicked on the base)

Thank you! Looks like they might be worth building after all. I'll give it a try and use Demealiz's trick to see how well they do for me.

erm... so to clarify, trade route profit from Economic StarBases work only if the sphere of effect covers the trade-route start/end planet?

In GalCiv I they did so I'm assuming it's the same until someone says otherwise. This would be another area where better documentation would go a long way.

Edit:
Just tested this out and it seems the economic star bases influence sphere does not have to cover the incoming/outgoing planet.

Yes could somebody clarify this up. Does the Economical Star Base influence actually have the end/start planet in its influence zone to provide bonus for trade routes or not? Ofcourse this would be wise, since you can get other bonuses aswell from economical star bases, but is it a must to have star base influence touching the planet.

I also understanded that if you build say two economical bases withing the range of one Trade route, only one of em is going give bonus to the trade route or are they both going to give bonus? How about military star bases?

If both are going to give bonus this could lead to some quite ridicilous star base positioning. Brad alrdy stated that in upcoming version they are going to restrict star base count to 4 per sector.
