What Anti-Virus would you go with? McAfee, Norton or Panda..?

Doesn't matter. Either way your screwed and surrender your pc to the program. Macafee turns into the most evil spyware when your subscription runs out.
Norton really should be a four letter word,

AVAST. It's free and as I have stated before...it did the job when Norton and AVG could not. As for Macafee...it constantly mistook things for viruses that were NOT and often found things it couldn't even remove. Another reason I went to AVAST. It never did either.

Last thing..I like that it updates OFTEN..sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. It works with messenger, email, Limewire and like programs. It's been accused of being a resource hog/power hog...but as someone with 256MB of shared memory when I got it, I never had a problem.

Kaspersky
- Excellent AV record
- Works with Opera as well as FF & IE
- Checks for updates hourly & may update several times a day.
- Small footprint. Little impact on system resources

This is a thread you are going to get different answers from everyone. I would recommend downloading the trials and trying each one for yourself.

Agreed Island Dog. Was hoping the responses would be more in favor of certain ones. Was really just hoping Panda was worth the money as I'm not too enthraled with McAfee or Nortons (used McAfee in the past, use Nortons now)

I used to love "Thunderbyte" if anyone remembers it?

Anyways, will just do as suggested and get a couple trials of the mentionables here. Wouldn't mind seeing a nice Panda write up though in this thread if anyone has searched for a good AV and picked that one.

I use Computer Associates...Mainly because it is Run By Microsoft, and therefore they have much more acces to source code that all the others do not have...Gives them a better edge, also you get a first year free, then it is 20 dollars a year afterwards...and I have been running it for about 1.5 years with no infections at all. mostly user friendly too. But Ive had complete data nightmares with both McAfee and Norton...So Im with Journeyman NightTrain on his viewpoint too.

Never tried Panda-but Norton is pretty good before it expires. McAfee is a real pain to install, and then when it keeps begging you to register and buy and all that crap-its hard to uninstall. If I didnt say so already McAfee IS crap . You can get a 5 month Norton antivirus by going to Google, clicking 'more' and downloading Google Pack. You also get a bunch of other free stuff.

When he owned the co the stuff was OK...really the 4-letter word is 'Symantec'...

I'm liking these responses. I think after this thread is dead majority will mostly over-rule in my decision.

I find people here to be most interactive and we all tend to be running on XP Pro or something comperable.. Which is why I love asking these questions here.

Really am honored by all of your replies. I've seen some threads like this never get any responses. Means a lot you all care enough to stop by

Tell you what i use AVG FREE and it's great, it's not a massive drain on the system and it don't cost (that's allways good)

i used to use norton and it just kills your comp.

i've used AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic for a few years now, and it has worked fantastically, and i've never had a virus....this is an impartial link to a comparison test between the free editions of AntiVir, AVAST and AVG, and AntiVir outperforms the others...i've tried some other progs, including non-frre ones, and have alsways gone back to AnitVir, 'cos it works well, is simple to use and doesn't effect my system in any way, other than keeping it safe ]
