Tips, tricks, and more

Welcome to another (or first) edition of "Did you know..."

Standing in for a dialog with a "show me more tips" checkbox is your host, me with a series of fairly random but hopefully useful suggestions that might make your gameplay more fun!

#1 You can "grab" the map with the left mouse button and move it around by holding it down.  You may never want to edge scroll again.

#2 You can RIGHT-CLICK on the ship built block notifications that flow down on the right and your ship will automatically be launched.

#3 On the planet screen, you can put your mouse over the approval and influence and it will explain where that number is derived from.

#4 In the Diplomacy screen, you can RIGHT-CLICK on tiems to bring up a dialog that gives info on that item.

#5 You can play a quasi-Hot seat game with someone by loading up the game as GalCiv2 cheat (use the cheat parameter).  Then when you set up the game, you let the AI play out a few turns and then have your friend pick one of the races they want to control. Have them select that unit and hit  CTRL-SHIFT-Z.

#6 CTRL-S is the quick save.

#7 You can double click on planets and various other items to take the place of having to place, or install or build or go to their screen.

Does anyone know all available "Cheats" and how they work?

You can find a list of all known cheats, and step-by-step instructions on how to enable them here:

WWW Link

However, i have found that using them makes playing the game incredibly boring, and when you find your empire is in a tight spot economically or militaristically, it is difficult to resist the temptation of sneaking a little cash into your treasury and cloning your best ship 15 times and crushing those who dared to come out of nowhere while your vulnerable and take 3 of your planets!

Has the hotseat cheat been disabled in version v1.4x ?
All other cheats are working fine, but the CTRL +SHIFT + Z does absolutely nothing.

Works fine for me. Make sure you are actually selecting an enemy ship when you press the keys, as it switches you to the owner of the selected ship and won't do anything if you have nohting or your own ship selected.

That was the problem, I was selecting an enemy planet instead, thank you.

Did you know that when you use cheat code to add to PQ before you colonize it, it will actually have new, cheat-added Workable tiles? P.S. It can make a PQ 0 planet habitable, too. P.S. P.S. It only works when a un-colonized planet is selected.

How do you play in windowed mode?

I think it's about resolution...MY desktop is on 1280X1024 res, and game is on 1024X768, so yes, I'm playing windowed mode too...

And also, love the thing that I don't have to use keyboard, it's kinda easier to set my self up in the bed...I often fall in sleep while playing...

a couple interesting things i found
- pressing 'c' not only centers on the selected ship but will also auto-select a non-autopilot ship with movement points remaining if there is one. (havent tested this a whole lot to confirm it).

- you can double-click on the icons of ships in the ship list menu (F1) to order them to use their movement points if they are on auto pilot.

these are the closest things i found to the two things i really wish there was, which are the 'find any ship with movement left' key, and 'use your movement points towards your auto-pilot destination' key

Did you know that you can't get back into the UP if you leave? I don't like that lol.

Did you know that in DA you can build Basic Factories now even after you've researched Industrial Sector? On the planet screen, there are now three tabs "New", "Old", and "All" at the top of the social improvements scrollbar.

You no longer have to postpone research because it takes so stinking long to build the upgraded building.

Did you also know that if you buy a troop transport from another civ it appears just out of orbit next to the AI planet of origin and (here's the best part) it's fully loaded with his troops! Timing and planning it right you can conquer the galaxy using his ships his troops and through the diplomatic screen you can do it at the cost of only a few low level techs. I got my diplomatic and soldering ability up to the max, built a few heavily armed well defended and fast ships, sent them out to the civ I was going to conquer, then went to the diplomacy screen and traded Xeno Farming for almost all of his transports, finished the trade off with Xeno Farming II and declared and attacked and conquered all on the very next turn! Give it a shot.

Now thats what I call an exploit.

I thought that the whole point to the metaverse was to prevent people from using mods and cheats and then posting high scores and wins because of using mods or cheats?? Or did I miss something?

Actual cheats and mods are not submissable to the Meta. They throw up a 'cheat flag' and you get no score, but you can play a non-Meta game with them for your own gratification (for reasons of your own). Not everyone plays Meta games.
There are also a lot of 'Tactics' here which are perfectly acceptable for Meta games.I don't think spending the time to exploit the game comes under 'mods' or 'cheats' but rather 'inginuity' , Sugien.
Thats why we have threads like this so that we can share these gems (not the cheats and mods-they have their own special place) before the next patch eradicates them like a burnt out toaster.
Go ahead, try it, I haven't yet but I will

Oh, so it is ok to exploit something to get a high score? Maybe that tells me how some of those *very* high scores got posted, and then the exploit gets fixed and then *no one* else can use that exploit to get the *same* high score. Maybe I am a purest; but if I found something like that I would not exploit it; but rather post the bug so it gets fixed; because to me exploiting a but is tantamount to cheating; because after it gets fixed no one else can get that high of a score doing the *exact* same thing.

The highest scores currently on the metaverse have been obtained entirely though means still currently available. The only aspect of the strategies I am aware of that is commonly seen as an exploit of any sort is the Mind Control Center. Everything else is just a matter of maximizing every aspect of your empire you get scored on from the earliest possible point in the game.

I have found more of a method then an exploit that can give you an advantage. When an opponet is about to out run you to a planet or what ever you can get there first even if they are closer if after you have hit your turn button and they are closer, if before you hit the turn again you instead click on your ship and then to where both you and they are trying to get to (either a planet or a resorce) you can move first before they do; but you have to be close enough to get there in one move; because when you do hit the turn button you won't move because you already took it. Does everyone already know this? Or is it something I have found?

That has always been the case. Applies also to Transports and fleet battles - a little exploitation ,I always use the term loosely.
You may have misunderstood me Sugien. I meant there are certain things in place in game that you only get to know through trial and error and a lot of effort. once you know them , you use them. Alongside the game evolves and your game style has to evolve with it . Happy hunting

Yep I kinda figured that; because I write some small programs in VB myself. Today however because of power fluxauations I had to keep going back in and loading in the autosaves and then I took to doing quick saves until I figured out it was a faulty serge protector that was turning my pc off. I don't know if that is what happned or not; but I am *very* certain that I started the metavers **before** starting the game and then after only my second military vicory and to be frank quite the best game with the most fun I have played so far, that dang game would not go to the post screen it just would go back to the entry screen. I would think how ever if the game thought I was cheating by going out and back into with the saves to keep something from happening that instead of just going back to the intro without letting me post my score that it would have just set the cheat flag. I know I loged into the metaverse before I started the game but not each time after my pc shut off; but before when I had started a game and then had to stop for a while and then came back I just hit the load saved game without loging into the metavers and then at the end of the game it would just tell me to log on after asking if I wanted to post my score to the metavers. So my question or bug is *What Gives* Will I just loose the best game I have played so far?

Autopilot moves aren't done until you click the turn button, at the same time AI ships are moved. That way you can do things like this when you see somewhere you need to intervene and stop the autopilot. If autopilot moves took place at the beginning of each turn, all your ships would have no moves left and you wouldn't be able to react as quickly to any new situations that came up.

Once you start a Meta game you dont need to logon again untill you want to post your score.
Sounds to me like you have set up a non- Meta game if you don't get the POST TO META screen at the end.
Try making sure your net connection is running before playing your end game save
If that doesn't work then you have lost that score - sorry.

I have my first two games cheat flagged   - first ever a gigantic that took me 21 years to complete and the second a 3 year defeat. Problem was a custom race I developed was not submittable. At least now the Meta lets you know before you start.

Anyway Sugien , I can't think of anything else - what do you say Kryo ?

Already advised him on another thread to see if support can get it to go.

Sugien, did you start the game in one version and update mid-game? I had your same problem and support suggested that this was the cause. If that is the case, then there is apparently nothing to do about it.
