Joining an Empire in the Metaverse

i am trying to find out where in the metaverse screen one goes to join an empire..

That's a simple one. Please go to http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=empire&id=21 where ever you see an empire, such as my empire, and just click on the 'Join Empire' link. Note: you must be logged in to see the 'Join Empire' link. That's it! You're all set.

Additionally, you must have a 'character' set up already

Go to the Metaverse site, hover over 'Account' and click 'Edit My Characters'. Then, and only then, will you be able to join an Empire.
