Simultaneous building

What's the scoop with simultaneous building in GalCiv2? I hate the way most TBS games only let one entire planet build only one thing at a time. Can I at least do simultaneous military and social production? What if I build multiple starbases, can I crank out multiple ships at once or combine their output to build one thing faster?

I know realism isn't a key thing in these games, what with space aliens, space ships and laser guns, but it's so jarringly unrealistic that an entire colony can build only one thing at a time that it almost ruins the fantasy.

I think I should be able to simultaneously build as man y things as I want, but the more things I'm building at once, the slower each thing will build unless I put extra capital into the construction.

How does it work in galciv2? I guess I'll find out in a couple hours, but I'm curious

Well when you have fixed construction resources to do tasks A and B, there are two ways to do them.

1) Do task A. Then do task B.
2) Split your resources evenly and do tasks A and B together.

With fixed resources, you'll take the same amount of time to do both, Scenario 1 means you get the result of task A halfway through, and the results of task B at the end. Parallel building gives you nothing until the end. Sequentiual building is the better path. From that point of view the sequantial building is more realistic/logical.

Still, if speed is an issue, you can always buy instead of building it yourself as you say. And if you're willing to put in extra capital to speed along "several things at once" building, you might just as well put in the extra capital to buy instead of build.

That's just how it seems to work to me, like you I'll be finding out myself soon enough.

You can build ships and social projects simultaneously.

You can only build one ship at a time per planet but the planet will keep building the ship until you tell it to stop. You can hold the ships unlaunched and sent them all at once to a starbase rally point or you can set several planets to build constructers and automatically send them to a rally point.

what's unreal about laser guns and spaceships? humanity has both of those! most likely alien s too actually.

Thats good that we can at least do social and military.

Monkey Pants, you're correct as long as projects A and B are of equal size and cost. This was something that bugged me about MOO2. I could only build a ship or a building. So what happened? The easiest to construct buildings were always done first.

I'm so glad that galciv has "payment plan" options. In MOO if I didn't have enough cash to build something I had no choice but to wait, divert output to trade goods to make the cash or sell off buildings or scrap ships. Payment options add much more depth.
