Is modding going to be as simple as I think it is?

I'm thinking it would be as simple as adding in new parts in the ship creator, if you wanted to add on to an existing hull style. I mean, thats not a huge mod, but it would count.

Is it possible to add in addition hull styles with all your own custom parts?

Can you Add in extra races? Like a custom race with a pre included attributes/portait?

Basically what im asking is what all can you do in adding new content?

Well that depends. What's your level of modding ability? A first timer may be daunted if you say a lot of the data files are in XML. But if you have some experience say modding CIV4, then yeah its that easy. Sorry for another CIV reference but closest thing I thought of first. If you're a type where you need a SDK or a util like the ol' Gal Civ writer then its kinda medium but not hard.

Well once you import them yeah.

Yes. There in .X format

In a word yes. You can modify the existing races if you like changing their portraits and abilities as well as make your own custom ones.

Well nearly everything.. but there are some things that are hardcoded. Won't be able to change the AI. Even the screens are changeable. You can change how planets look. Ships and races we already discussed. Wouldn't be a strectch too much to change look of starbases either. Change stars.. What else is there? Oh yeah Techs, Events, Anomalies.. XML. The modding forum here is really blooming - Stardock has been giving us help and step by steps.

Actually I believe the number of races is hardcoded, as well as the number of ship styles. You can change anything, but adding additional styles and races is not supported at the moment, if I remember correctly. I think they are trying to change that though.

i hope someone makes a Star Trek mod, replacing all the GC races with trekkie ones that would be sweet

Well I don't think you can add a major race but you could replace one, in that sense you can. You can add in minor races. . .

It's pretty much a given that you can have your favorite Sci-Fi dream/fantasy mod come true.

I wonder how (relatively) simple it would be to reduce the size of the planets on the map so they're significantly smaller than the stars. Just a minor cosmetic change.

Well you should be able to change the size of the planets, since some have moons with them.

What I want to know is, can you add research techs and new types of mass drivers/missiles/lasers as well as change there fireing effect?

Shadow_Warrior: Yes. You will be able to, once I get the mods folder working.

Events are one of my favorite aspects of the GC games. How easy will it be to add new events? Will there be a greater range of possible results/effects than GC1?

If you look on the modding page, theres already a guide up on how to create new events.

Props to stardock.
