    Ah, dating actresses. Let's say you go through a particularly messy or painful breakup; we've all been there. You think you'll watch one of your favorite TV shows. Maybe you can relax, get your mind off things. *POW* There she is, playing one of the lead actress's friends for an episode. It's like getting sucker punched. Rather than relaxation you get the pain dredged up all over again, like broken glass at the bottom of your margarita. Blend that, Jimmy Buffet.

    Yep, nothing like the fun and glamour of dating an actress.

Why is it unbelievable that someone could date an actress? They are after all, just people. I can't imagine how crappy that would be. You don't have the out of sight out of mind option.

Here's the thing about actresses.....


The process of being an actor or actress goes something like this:


1.  Search for parts and send them your picture and resume


2.  Get rejected 20-30 times, and get an audition


3.  Go to audition and do really well, get called back for another audition.


4.  Complete second audition and get called back for the 3rd.


5.  Get told you were ok, but just dont have the "look" they want.


6. Repeat


 


Additionally the rejection can happen at steps 3 and 4.  It really wrecks their self image getting so much rejection.  Regardless of how talented or attractive someone might be, that many "no" 's will surely dampen your confidence.   The result of that is....well you can just imagine.

Hi, Jeremy. If I thought it was bad I'd swear off, something I haven't done yet. It just has some inherent problems. I also didn't mean to imply there was only one problem. Though that can be inferred from the title. Oops. I wanted to focus on this particular problem because it is something no-one ever thinks about. I figured most of the other problems were obvious or well known. It would have been clutter and this was all I really wanted to say.

Here's my experience. People enter the biz with all levels of self-esteem. While rejection is certainly unpleasant-- especially when you totally expect to get the part or be signed by the agency-- most people I've seen maintain just about the same level of self-esteem regardless of their level of success or failure. The people who lack self-esteem tend to carry it with them their entire careers. It's responsible for a lot of the almost inexplicable self destructive behavior you see. I've seen other people who were really up and chipper who never got any kind of break whatsoever. They usually walk away not broken but feeling they gave it their all and it just wasn't for them, their high self esteem intact and carrying it with them to their next life adventure. Obviously there are exceptions, but overall that is what I have seen.

Thanks, Jill. You got it. Of course, it works in reverse, too. I had an ex-girlfriend get upset because she heard me on the radio. You just never know when someone is going to pop-up. There's no control.

Nice line, Steven. I'm going to steal it. As for the rest of your comment, I don't think I display any more angst than other bloggers, and hopefully with a lot more humor thrown in most of the time. Could you make your point more clearly?

Dan, Dan, I'm not really sure what point you're making either, particularly the "But it's not the first of this nature." I know, 12 whole blogs in 3 months. I'm a monster. My fingers must be bleeding from all the typing.

Okay, that's disingenuous. I did write and post 4 blogs last night. Consider this though. I have 2 pages worth of blog topics I haven't gotten to. If I wrote and posted one a day, without generating any further ideas, it would take 2 months to write them all. But I can't write every day. My domestic life is in upheaval, so I'm not sure whether I'm going to even have an Internet connection soon. I wanted to get some more of these out there because I may be gone for an indefinite period of time. I have a chronic illness that right now is messing with my ability to do anything, much less write. I have to make hay while the sun shines. If I can somehow manage to bang out 4 blogs, I'm going to do it. I don't see what difference it makes whether I post 1 a week for 4 weeks or 4 in 1 day. Have you criticized people who are posting daily? Do you regularly post comments against those who make a habit of multiple postings per a day? Again, Dan, 12 blogs in 3 months. I'm the tortoise here, not the hare.

You're obviously trying to make a point. It just hasn't come through, yet. Feel free to try again. And don't take that personally-- we still love you.
