Winlogon dll has FAILED testing

Laptop was working, but serious mobility challenged.

I struggle and get multiplicity to work with my laptop.  It works for awhile and when I go moble and return.  Rinse and repeat.  The solution is never obvious.

Only notable feature to the failure is in the troubleshooting the Winlogon dll has FAILED testing (big red x).  Reboots don't address it.  Reinstall doesn't address it.  No changes from there to here.

Why is it that the laptop has problems when my three other systems (including a laptop that I don't go moble with very often) don't have these problems?  All systems are XP sp2.  The other two troubleshooting checks are big green checks.

Where can I begin to look to address the Winlogon dll has FAILED testing error?

I love this. This was posted in 2006 with no help/replies.  And guess what, the problem still exists in 2010. I'm having the very same problem! Wish someone would fix this problem.

Are you on a 64 bit OS?  Please keep in mind that official support is handled through [email protected]

I have had the same problems with winlogon.dll not running (on a laptop and tower with win7-32bit).

After rebooting both computers, the laptop came up in a temp profile and it worked! winlogon.dll was running.  I logged out of the temp and back into my main on the laptop and is continuing to run.

Is something being written to the user profile that when you get a clean one it clears up the problem? I'm not computer saavy, so I clueless, but putting out what fixed it (I am not rebooting again for as along as I can get away with it 'cause I need the connection right now to finish a project. I'll report back here if it fails after my next reboot).
