I hear far too many Americans complaining about the price of the many different social welfare programs that are being handed to our future generations to pay for. It is not about the monitary price, but rather the liberty that we are giving away. We must not be afraid to say that the reason that we are not interested in Socialized medicine (for example) is not because we cannot pay for it, and it is not that the quality of care will be diminished. Those are biproducts of socialism, but dig a little deeper. Look to the founding document of our country. Where within the Constitution does it mandate that the federal government should have that kind of broad sweeping power? When we give the State the power to give us things, someone has to pay. We pay with our liberty, we pay with the advancement of our society, and we pay with the economy flatlining. The arguements that we put forth must be grounded on bedrock. We can say that the so called stimulis plan was wrong because we cannot afford it, and that would be true, but it is not the real reason that I dissagree with it. I am a capitalist. I know that when you give me a safety net and tell me I am too big to fail, you are also giving me a ceiling as to how much I can suceed. One cannot exist without the other. Be careful of the arguments that you put forth to counter the craziness that we are being forced into. At some point our leaders may find the details of a bill may sound good enough to compromise. Stand on the principle. That cannot be argued. Make sure that your representatives and senators understand the principle and stand with you, or they can find themselves voted out
