Income tax actually was started to pay for the Civil War. It was also supposed to only be temporary. In 1913, the 16th Amendment to the Constitution made the income tax a permanent fixture in the U.S. tax system. It was intended for running the goverment.  Not to support able bodied citizens who refuse to work for a living.

But now I should be forced to give half my wages to my brother inlaw who is able to work but instead chooses to live off his parents and do drugs? He actually had the oppertunity to make more $ an hour than I and make a dam good living, but chose to sit at home screwing off makin babies with his never employed GF. But now im expected to have to go to work 10+ hrs a day to feed my family of 7 then split my earnings with him? how is that fair?

If this falls in to place.. watch the size of the Poor class increase 100 fold as every one wants to sit at home and get free $$.

Many believe that taxes are supposed to pay for government services we all use and which cannot or many not be provided by private enterprise.

Any other use of taxation is regarded as legalised theft.

I wish conservative would really start to thing for themselves. No one is trying to enable the lazy. That has really become a brainless robotic response to people who try help the less fotunate. Making healthcare affordable for millions of Americans who can't afford it is not supporting lazy people. I work with the working poor almost everyday. I see people work hard to make ends meet, and have risky pregancies because they simply don't make enough to see a doctor and don't get benefits to get prenatal care. Get out and see the country, don't make uneducated assumptions about it!

Whether schools are something the government should provide is another question. Some say yes, some say no. Either way, schools are not in the business of giving money to people, only a service.

But if you don't see the difference between government services and government handouts, there is no way you can understand the argument, really.

It is in the Democrats interest to keep people poor. That is a large portion of their base. As people rise to make something more of themselves, especially getting into small business, they see more and more of their hard work going to the government. It's amazing how many people will eagerly wait for and demand their $1000 handout rather than motivate themselves to earn so much more.

That said, "Hey Obama, where's my money". I want it before the level drops below what I earn a year. What is the figure now for being rich 120K?

I certainly don't think the federal government should be paying for local education. Perhaps you should think through your arguments too.

Most of the services Americans make use of are from their state or local government (hence the United STATES).  I have a big objection to the federal government doing anything that isn't explicitly set out in the constitution.

exactly Leauki.  My sentiments too.  Did you see how the whole world celebrated this morning?  Indonesians, Pakastan etc?  Obama is more than scary in my book and I've NEVER said that about any other politician ever. 

I am not kidding either when I say, you're exactly on the right track Leauki.  It's something Christians for many years have been waiting for because of the prophetical implications.  It's not about if this happens but when.  I've been watching this unfold since I was about 12 years old expecting it to happen in my lifetime. 

The prophet Ezekiel wrote about this in Chap 38 of Ezekiel.  Chapters 38-39 predict a future attack on Israel and God's deliverance of His people.  The invading armies come out of the north parts to invade Palestine but are destroyed by supernatural intervention (39:3).  The timing of the battle is unclear but Israel will be living in security, whether real or imagined as Israel feels secure under a peace treaty with the Antichrist. Remember they had not been in control of their homeland since Ezekiel wrote this until 1948 having wandered with no country for almost 2,000 years.  And they have not had any satisfaction of peace and well being as of yet.   Here's just an excerpt to explain how it's going to pan out.  Remember this was written about 570 B.C. 

V1 Set your face against Gog, the land of Magog (Russia) the chief prince of Mescheck andTubal (Moscow, Tobolsk) and prophesy against him.

V2 And say, Thus says the Lord God: Behold I am against you O Gog the chief prince of Mesheck and Tubal;

V4 And I will turn you back and put hooks into your jaws and I will bring you forth and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with sorts of armour even a great company with bucklers and sheilds, all of them handling swords;

V5 Persia (Iran) Ethiopia, and Libya (northern Sudan) with them all of them with shield and helmet. 

V6 Gomer (probably the eastern part of Turkey and the Ukraine) and all his bands the house of Togamath (the part of Turkey near the Syrian border) of the north quarters and all his bands and many people with thee. 

V7 So be prepared and prepare for yourself, you and all your company that are assembled to you and be a guard unto them. 

V8 After many days you shall be visited; in the latter years  (last days) you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword (Israel) and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel which have been always waste but is brought forth out of the nations (1948) and they shall dwell safely all of them. 

V9 You shall ascend and come like a storm, you shall be like a cloud to cover the land, you and all your bands and many people with you.  (massive strength of invaders)

V10Thus says God, It shall also come to pass that at the same time shall things come into your mind and you shall think an evil thought.

V11 And you shall say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages (living in false peaceful times) I will go to them that are at rest (Obama's peace?) that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls and having neither bars nor gates.

v12 To take a spoil and to take a prey to turn your hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations (Israel) which have gotten cattle and goods that dwell in the midst of the land (lit. the navel of the earth). 

v13 Sheba and Dedan (Arabs) and the merchants of Tarshish (S of Spain near Gibraltar) with all the young lions thereof, shall say to you, have you come to take a spoil?  Have you gathered your company to take a prey?  To carry away silver and gold to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

v14 Therefore son of man (Ezekiel) prophesy and say unto Gog (Russia) Thus says the Lord God, In that day when my people of Israel dwells safely (not...as in NOT happened yet) shall you not know it?

v15 And you shall come from your place out of the north parts (Russia, Syria, etc) you and many people with you (Arab nations) all of them riding upon horses a great company and a mighty army.

v16 And you shall come up against my people of Israel as a cloud to cover the land, it shall be in the last days and I will bring you against my land that the heathen may know me when I shall be sactified in you, O Gog before their eyes. (truth happens)

#2. you missed my example or chose to ignore it. My brotherinlaw voted for Obama because he truly feel's obama will Redistribute the wealth, and he will get a chunk of change.

#3. I was born in whittier and lived in compton and pomona, Ive lived the poverty first hand. I watched as welfare moms drove mercedes while my mom refused Welfare and worked 2 jobs to support me, driving an old buick. Those on welfare had better medical and dental than I had with my mom working 2 jobs. So I speak from experience and do not feel Obliged to pander to those who CAN work and refuse. I realize there are people out there who CAN NOT work *Disabled* etc. But this does not exonerate the tons of able bodied folks who abuse the systems to get free $$ while sitting on their Arses. I have no sympathy for them. Living in pomona and the such, the majority I saw were exactly that. I dont work with the poor ,I lived it. I still live pay check to pay check at times. I dont make uneducated assumptions, I know the truth. Growing up watching my neighbors and their husbands/ boy friends who dodge the social worker because hes not supposed to live there. Hell one family, he claimed the kids in one county while she claimed them in another. Drawing welfare from 2 counties at the same time.. they had all kinds of nice stuff, much of which usually got sold for drugs shortly after purchase. (money runs thin from the 1st to the 15th).

No making health care affordible is not, But why not work on bringing down the cost of health care? Why Tax the crap out of a few to support your Ideals? I applaude Health care for all, but robbing from the rich to give the poor medical is not the way either. How about getting wages raised? or maybe actually getting the american people Working again?

i suspect it won't be as bad as you think - i think the bailout is what disillusioned people since they felt it was socialism helping out Wall Street. Not that there weren't careless people buying homes they couldn't afford, but Wall Street I think is what really ended up trying a bad housing market to the rest of the economy. my friend works in risk management at a bank and he says their department was basically told to go fuck themselves by hot shots trying to short cut their way to being the next Buffet.

there were also many social issues on the table, which is why i voted for obama and Roe v. Wade is what I think made the Hilary voters ultimately swing back who would otherwise have voted for McCain...they're really needs to be separate parties for social and fiscal conservatism. unlike other third parties i think you'd find this a very successful option.

once the dust settles, Americans are going to be weary of changing the way society as a whole works. improving health care yes, universal health care probably not so much. there will likely be tax incentives to create jobs as well, or at least one can hope.

Conservatives already "thing" for themselves.  LIberals just feel good, so they do it.  It is plain that you have not though the ramifications of what Obama (and now even Schumer) are proposing.  The doubts and fears (of the actions that are to come) are being voiced here - because today we can.  Once the fairness doctrine goes into effect, we may not be able to.

Couching legal theft with flowery words and euphamisms does not change the facts of what they are.  But dont worry - in 4 years we will be looking back on the good old days when you could say what you wanted without fear of reprisals. And earn a living without a government handout.

Great point. Thanks for bringing up the difference. Honestly, I never thought of that. By the way, I didn't use a selected scripture without using a whole text, thus quoting 3 chapters and not one verse. That has nothing to do with the point you made, and a good point to make.

But can I ask an honest question? As a Christian, do you live a lifestyle reflected by the early Acts church? Or are you one who believes that you should acquire as much wealth as you can? Don't you think that the early church was perhaps a bit socialistic in it's mindset to give to the least fortunate of the church? Honestly, as a Christian how would you answer?

Yeah got it. Fairness doctrine stinks, getting too close to censorship. But what did that have to do with thinking for yourself? It pertains to media. Are you saying you can't think without some form of media to help you?

I grew in Gary, IN and worked in the projects of Chicago and now do the same part time in the south. I, too, lived and watched poverty at first hand.  I still do. My immediate family didn't need welfare (or at least did use it) and worked hard, but I have had a great number of other family members and friends who did.  Some made it out. Some have not been able to make it yet. I never saw anyone making a lucrative living from welfare. In fact, you usually were a target for getting beat up or recruited for gangs if it was found out you were on welfare.

I've never seen a welfare mom with a Mercedes or anything like that. In my experience in the system, the people you speak about make up a very loud minority. Yes, there are some people who abuse the system. There is a minority of individuals that look for loopholes to make a profit. They don't represent all the other poor people who are trying hard to get out. Half of my job is helping them get out. The other half is challenging them to give back to where they came from so others won't have it as hard.

I apologize if I have offended you. I don't doubt what you saw or what you lived. You were not the only one to live it. But were actually looking for people who were hurting or enviously looking a minority of people milking the system.
