I succeeded in adding new ports but now, when I launch the game and that I click on “multiplayers”, the play says to me to download the last version of “impulse” and I cannot enter the page of multiplayers.
But I had it already, so I unninstal impulse and I reinstalled it, but they always tell me the same thing...?

What version does impulse say you have?

download the last version of “impulse”

If you run impulse, it will update itself to the latest version.

You can then use Impulse to see if there are any updates for Political Machine 2008, or any of your other Stardock-related games and products.

@Pedro9188,

It sounds to me like your Impulse needs updating, as well as your game version maybe?

Try running Impulse as "administrator". (ie. right-click on Impulse "run as" etc.)

@dude106

You don't need to know your "external IP". Please contact me via xfire (the1monk) and we'll get this sorted for you, or if you have TeamSpeak I'll be glad to talk you through the steps via my TS Server.

thanks,

I've tried everything in the pdf... my firewall is correctly configured and I'm fairly sure I've got it right in the router settings but I am still getting the port error whenever I try to connect to a game.

I've ran it as admin and everything but nothing works. Help is appreciated.

The .pdf didn't mention how to let ports through the firewall, so if you need directions on that, here they are (monk, you can put these in your pdf if you'd like):

To open the ports for multiplayer, you need to go to Control Panel->Windows Firewall. Then,

IF YOU HAVE VISTA:
There will then be a link to "allow a program through the firewall". If you click the link, then you can either add a program, or add a port.

IF YOU HAVE XP:
Go to the "exceptions" tab.

In either case, you'll want to add ports, so click the "Add Port" button. Add UDP port 6000 and then UDP port 6112. When you add a port it'll ask you to name it, but it doesn't matter what you name them. I went with PM2008 Multiplayer 1 and PM2008 Multiplayer 2 for my port names.

Hopefully that helps.

Do you know if your cable/dsl might also be functioning as a router? You might have allowed the ports through your software firewall(s) to your PC, and allowed/forwarded the traffic past/through your router, but if your cabled/dsl modem is also performing NAT then the traffic isn't even getting to your router in the first place.

Feel free to contact me via xfire if you'd like me to talk you through the steps.

thanks,

I am connected through a DSL connection. My phone cord connects to a router/modem thing that spits out an ethernet cord and wireless signal. I guess it acts as a modem and a router.

Is there a remedy to this?

Yes you need to perform the "port-forwarding" as described in my guide. Your dsl modem/router is stopping the traffic for the two ports required, it needs to "forward" said traffic to your PC.

Go through my guide step-by-step and you shouldn't have any further problems. If you can't seem to follow the steps, contact me via xfire (the1monk) and I'll talk you through the steps.

It is 7:50 pm EST. I am not seeing anyone else in the multiplayer. I don't know if it is because there is no one there, or because I do not have the ports opened properly. I saw someone earlier, but when I tried to join the game I got disconnected and the port message popped up again. I have Vista, have the program allowed thru firewall, and have added ports 6000 and 6112 UDP.

If anyone was online at that time please let me know. That will at least let me know that I had the ports incorrectly configured.

Thanks.

@ liberalismwithagrenadelauncher,

1. start port and end port should both be the same (make two entries), one for one port and another for the other one.

2. Are you looking at your computer's IP address or the WAN IP address of the Netgear? If that's the IP of the Netgear, all that means is that that's the IP your router is assigned by your ISP. You'll need to go back to the first step in my guide and find the IP of your computer to enter it as the IP you're wanting to forward those two ports to.

The only reason one should check to see what kind of IP your router is being assigned is to make sure you're not in a "double-NAT" scenario (where your cable/dsl is ALSO performing as a router).

thanks,

the Monk

I just bought the game and me and the wifey were wanting to play together. I opened the ports you specified. I can't seem to get them to forward the ports to more than one of my pcs. Ok like I have 6000 and 6112 tcp open for sins to my pc. When i try to open the udp ports for the same i get an error message. I also was able to open the udp ports to her pc no prob. I've also tried the lan option with no success. I guess I'm in your need once again sir:)

Lord_Dark_Cloud,

Some firmware on some routers will have issues with forwarding what it sees as the same ports (eventhough they will be different protocols) to the same PC on two seperate lines.

Having said that, you shouldn't have to forward anything on your router in order to LAN-play with your wife.

Did you both check the "LAN" check-mark in the upper-right of the "multiplayer lobby"?

Then in the "Sever/Host" line put the local IP address of your wife's (the host) computer. ie. 192.168.xxx.xxx

That should do it, if you're still having issues I'll get ya on my TS again and we'll figure it out!

My apologies, the clan-site went down on friday and being a weekend is proving hard to get back up.

If you want the guide right now, please contact me via xfire or MSN, and I'll send you the guide immediately.

xfire: the1monk

MSN: the_Monk@live.ca

Sorry for the inconvenience.

EDIT:
the clan-site (through which my guide is being hosted) is back up. I am however working on moving all of my guides etc. to another website so this won't happen again. I will update the download-links as needed.
