Since the devs have given a great discount on buying the new game for purchasers of the old Lost Empire, I've done so and purchased it as well. I will give my honest impressions later on.

I'm playing right now the demo and to be honest the game is really underwhelming, or at least doesn't really seem comparable to GC2 in terms of gameplay.
Planet management and empire management is reduced at a minimum, you just don't have the feeling that micromanagement is reduced, instead you have the feeling that all the game is about building and moving fleets.
Even research system that on the forums of LE:I seemed having something special is so bland, with discoveries limited to level 1,2,3.Even GC2 with its uninspired tech tree (not considering TotA)seems a lot better.

The only thing which seems better done than in GC2 is the pieces of history which you can uncover during a game session, and to be honest lack of immersivity in GC2 is for me the weak point of the Stardock game.


LE:I really seems a mediocre game, not worth buying considering TotA is going to be released soon.

After some practive, I managed to crush minor races around my core territories, establishing a mighty empire that always seems more hungry..

Nice game. I hate the turn-limit on the demo, however..

I'm trying the demo, so far it seems to be a decent game, if they patch it up enough to fix the problems that are being reported in their forum I just may buy the thing.

I bought it and all I can say is it is barely okay for the low price. They did release a patch that helped some of the problems and added a couple of helpful features but it needs more patching to get it where it needs to be. Sadly, it appears that Paradox has dropped it and the devs (Pollux Gamelabs) seem to have left the building.

My barely okay rating is based on single player only and I have never finished a game. I am probably being too kind.

The worst part currently is that the developers are not posting ANY kind of info on the forums and seem to have stopped development of any future patches. At least that's what it looks like. Could by that they are frustrated by the fact that gamers are actually finding issues with the game, but that is no way to build trust and a fanbase.


The initial German release also had problems that were simply inaccaptable: Text that wrapped too far and was mixed with other text, making both unreadable; 'inhabitable' translated as 'uninhabitable'...

The most common problem is a missing prerequisite, which cause an error in
the installer detection. The following requirements are needed to run Lost
Empire - Immortals, and can be found in the "prerequisites" folder of the
installer/cd-rom.

XNA 1.0 Refresh

For Vista NET2.0 is not needed and cannot be installed.

It is important to notice that even though you have DirectX9 installed you
might not have all components, so run the DirectX installer.

Also notice that even though you have Vista and DirectX10 you still need to
install DirectX9 because DirectX10 does not replace DirectX9.

I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. LEI was only an okay game, but it had a lot of potential. It'll be a pity if Pollux goes under -- they're clearly gamers at heart just as we are. (

galciv and space empires are "indie" and very well designed... heck distant worlds is also very indie and is a good game.

Lost Empires: Immortals is an AMATEURISH game... it actually has superior graphics to many indie games... but it has terrible design and implementation.

If anything, i'd say the the problem with lost empires is that it is an indie (low budget) game that focused way too much on the graphics and way too little on the game... typically the opposite is the case... where low budget games focus on making amazing gameplay with lower end graphics. (just an FYI, a huge majority of expense in a game, especially a high end one, is the cost of the graphics)
