As an independent, I was extemely disappointed with our presidential choices in 2000. However, after four years of Bush, it is clear to me that we need a change. America is a great country. A country in which people are supposed to have the opportunity to work hard and make a good living. Under Bush economics, I see this disappearing. I see companies like Walmart getting tax breaks, forcing suppliers to outsource production, and under selling competitors. I am partially at fault. I like the cheap prices, probably like you. But the question is at what cost? Reagan believed in trickle down economics. Bush Sr. called this voo-doo economics. Now George W is trying to following in Reagan's footsteps by giving tax cuts to the wealthy. If the theory worked, the wealthy would reward the less wealthy Americans by hiring them and offering them opportunities to work thier way up. If this was true, I would support it. And, in some cases it is. But what we are seeing is that the public companies are loyal to stock holders and not to employees. Public companies are not evil, but they are being judged on costs, revenue, and profit. Therefore, if they can outsource work overseas to reduce costs or move corporate offices overseas to avoid taxes, they will. They have to, their competitors are. This leads me into why Bush's economic theory does not work... Tax cuts for the wealthy who invest in large corporations does not help America. Why? Because these companies are under pressure to reduce costs and improve profit, so they outsource work. Work that maybe you or your neighbor once did, is gone. So... what is the solution? Bush says community college. I respond to that asking how a radiologist is going to go to community college and get a comparable job? I don't think so. Not to mention, as the world expands, eventually, less fortunate countries will be able to do everything America can do. Worst case, all work will be done overseas except service. The response argument is typically that America is innovative. It is, for now. But with Bush's "No child left behind" he is pushing standardized tests. Many of our innovators are artists, musicians, etc who think outside the box. If our children become standardized drones, will American stay ahead of the world?
So... Republican, Democrats, Greens, Libs, Inds, unless you want to work at Walmart or Mcdonald's, I urge you to vote anti-Bush (or Kerry for you less informed).
