Everyone should support my chosen party. Republicans are blah blah blah. Democrats are blah blah blah. So obviously, my chosen party is superior.
Seriously, I pop in here because the game sounds interesting and this is what I see. Welcome to the polarized state of politics in America. What about issues, people? Why can't we have intelligent debates without caring about parties? All the time, I hear people say "Our forefathers wanted this, our forefathers wanted that." Well, I'll tell you what most of the signers of the Declaration of Independence wanted: NO POLITICAL PARTIES. Most of them favored a system where votes were purely on an issue and candidate basis, not 2 giant groups competing to suck the tit of the corporations and unions.
All I see are people talking about things in terms of "Democrat" and "Republican" as if they had any meaning outside of structure. They are just organizations, like Coca-Cola and Pepsi, except they market candidates instead of soda. I can be a conserative Democrat or a liberal Republican. And saying "liberal" and "conservative" is only slightly less worse. Why is every issue "liberal or conservative"? Since when is life so black and white? Why can't I examine life issue by issue, research the facts, and come to a conclusion? Why do I have to just have "liberal" or "conservative" opinions? Can't I support abortion but be against gun control, for instance? What happened here?
I mean, hey, it's your life. Argue however you want. But not only is it not at all productive to just stereotype everyone, it's pretty ignorant too.
And, of course, I'm sure there are plenty of mature debaters around here. I just looked at some of the recent topics and this is what I saw. Everything's a loaded term: "blah blah blah terrorism blah blah blah socialism blah blah blah special interests". I'm no master of debate, but I will give this one tip:
Have some evidence that what you say is NOT bullshit. Link sources, and cite sources to those sources.
Also, don't get too engaged. You know what they say about argueing online. You're not going to convince anyone to adopt your political views; in all my years online I've never seen anyone change their mind after an online debate. It's too impersonal. So relax. Don't get mad that other people have different views. That's life, and you argueing with them is not going to change it. And be polite, guys. Name-calling just makes you look like an uneducated jerk.
