Bridge Collapse is Example of Crumbling Infastructure!

We have wasted $44 Billion in Iraq to rebuild their infrastructure and do nothing to deal with identical problems in America. We spend $12 Billion each month on a lost cause in Iraq. Last month it was the steam line in New York. Let’s keep burying our heads in the sand!

This has nothing to do with Iraq, and you know it.  I mean seriously gene, you equate everything to Bush and Iraq no matter how ridiculous it is.  Perfect example is this post.

I would go and explain more but we have already covered this the last time you made a post like this.

Bridge - Infrastructure maintained by the state.

Steam pipe - Infrastructure maintained by the city.

So, where does the Federal governenment, or the war in Iraq come in?  The Fed isn't meant to fix all problems at all levels.

Federal government funds the states, has for a while now. And, due to the commerce clause, the bridge is on an interstate - Federal government's funds pay for most of that. Steam pipe - cities are funded by states, and states by Federal government. The state didn't have enough money to fund the city enough to fix the steam pipe, because the war in Iraq is too costly.

the money being used for iraq would never have gone to the states for roads, bridges, or steam pipes. dispite what gene or you say or think

Actually, I think for bridges that it is. I could be wrong, but I thought that the The Federal Bridge Program funding (under FHWA) covered 80% of the cost of bridge upgrades, repairs and replacements. The program, along with other Federal Highway Programs, has seen significant cuts to offset spending for Iraq and Katrina reconstruction. In March of this year, $3.4 Billion was rescinded from FHWA programs, and in June another $871 million -- that's a lot of money that is no longer going to upgrade and repair our transportation infastructure.

This has nothing to do with Iraq, and you know it.

The money we have spent in Iraq would have rebuilt most of the infrastructure in this country. We will have spent almost a TRILLION dollars on Iraq before this is done and we will be less secure then when we started! Some say it is not the Federal Governments responsibility to rebuild the infrastructure. Since when is it the Federal Governments responsibility to invade Iraq? We were not attacked by Iraq nor were they capable of attacking the United States. Even if Saddam had the WMD Bush and Cheney said they had they would not have been any more of a threat then North Korea, Iran, Syria, China or Russia all of whom most likely have the WMD that Bush said Saddam, possessed.

We diverted our military resources from the people who caused 9/11 and today they are back to where they were before 9/11 and now operate both Iraq and Pakistan. HOW has that made us safer? How has the investment of 3,600 lives, 26,000 injuries and a Trillion Dollars been a good investment?

So here is my question...

Do you honestly believe that if anyone else had won the election that the Trillion Dollars spent in IRAQ would have made it down to projects like this?

I just don't buy it. This bridge didn't get old over night. I also don't buy that the repairs didn't happen because the money was spent in Iraq. For two and a half years now I have watched road crews tear down and rebuild a bridge crossing the Red River.

Gene, I am ashamed of you. These people that were on that bridge don't need you to turn this in to some sort of Bush hating tirade.

They have now discovered a report in 1990 and in 2001 that showed corrosion and NOTHING was done about it. The Trillion Dollars that Bush added to the debt from the Iraq War will add $50 Billion EVERY year in interest. That $50 Billion could be used to repair things like bridges, tunnels, water, sewer systems. This is the Very TIP of the Ice Burg!

I DID NOTHING OF THE SORT. What I said was the truth! The policies we are following are ignoring the REAL NEEDS in our country so our president can invade a country that was unjustified and has not made America safer or better off. It is Bush you should be ashamed of! I am ashamed of ANYONE that continues to support Bush and his bankrupt policies!!!!!!!

Lou Dobbs reported that 70,000 Bridges have the same safety evaluation as the bridge that Collapsed. 3,500 Dams have a safety rating of D. The electric Grid that failed several years ago has had no major repair. Water and sewer systems are at the end of their life. We are NOT spending even 20% of the levels that Civil Engineers say is needed to deal with the problem.

What we spent on the Iraq war could have replaced MOST of the needed infrastructure. Now we still have to repair the infrastructure as well as deal with the Trillion Dollars Bush has added to our debt from the Iraq War. His tax and spending policies have added a total of $4 Trillion to the national debt which will increase the interest on the debt EVERY YEAR by $200 Billion. That is what King George has done in less then 7 years!

I said NOTHING of the sort. What I said is if we had used the money we WASTED in Iraq we would have much of the resources to PAY for this work. Bush will have added another $200 BILLION dollars in interest on the $4 Trillion Dollars he added to the National Debt. That $200 Billion in interest is EVERY YEAR and we still must some day repay that $4 Trillion that the Bush tax and spending policies added. These are the facts that you who support Bush and his policies refuse to acknowledge.
