the truth is that up until the last 30 or 40 years we were predominantly Anglican, although Irish Catholic did make up a large proportion. in recent years though there has been a boom in muslim and buddhism, mostly due to immigrants from countries in asia and the middle east. plus one of the most rapidly growing religious movements, and this is due to conversion, not immigration and birth, is pentecostal christianity. as a christian who falls into that category, i find that statistic pretty exciting.
